Looking for some board thoughts-

60KG sailing mostly in the Gorge in Oregon. I own a fanatic Freewave 2020 75L which is great from 5.0-4.0. Below 4.0 its a handful for my size and weight. Many days in the gorge are 3.0-3.7 so looking for a better option.
Short list includes:
Fanatic Grip 68l, 2022
Goya Surfwave Quad 2017 (used)
Goya quad 2022, 68L

I haven't found a direct comparison between the Goya quad and Grip. Just reviews online for each which generally always say how amazing the board is which isn't very helpful. Also wondering how that 2017 Goya quad compares and if I will really get much more out of a the 2022 version.

Anything else I should be considering?

Any quick thoughts are appreciated. I'm an intermediate that sails on the windy days generally looking for control and to learn to ride the swells. Gorge is more bump and jump than waves as you know...

90 kgs, have the 2017 86L Goya quad. Sail the Gorge and coast but live and sail on Vancouver Island. The 2017 is by far the best board I've owned (I've had Quatro customs, Nelson customs, and previous production Goyas). I like a loose feel in the turns without the board losing grip or feeling unpredictable. I like a fast board for jumping/looping with good acceleration. I like a board that won't delam under the heels in 20 sessions. The 2017 Goya offers all of these traits. I'm winging more these days but it's this board that's keeping my interest in windsurfing. Sorry haven't sailed the Fanatic or new Goyas but the 2017 Goya quads are sorted.

Thanks for the info, very helpful! Does it seem to take a lot of power to plane? How does it do in the chop? Offer a lot of control on the super windy days in the gorge?

Early planing requires a bit of efficiency on the Goya but I wouldn't say it needs a lot of power to get up and go. Compared to the first gen of Goya Quads I'd say it's pretty good in chop. The narrow-ish tail and grip of the fins allows for great control in the Gorge; it never tail walks or gets unwieldy. It's quite fast and offers decent upwind drive for a wave board for jumping on the river. Slicing backside hacks in Gorge swell is too much fun. But get this board out to Pistol or the Cape especially and you'll have a ton of fun. I imagine this 2017 Goya quad will hold its own even against the current crop. I can't rate it highly enough as an all round wave board that still performs amazingly in good waves.

Windoc- thanks again for the info! I'm really an intermediate out there. I will go out on the big days, just trying to stick my jibes and survive when the avg wind is 28+ and the gusts are high 30's. With my weight of 60kg I would think I could sail 3.0 through 4.0. Any thoughts here? Currently on a Quattro single mono 67 when its 3.0-3:7. But want to learn the quad game as I hear people really like them in the gorge and even more so in waves. Also good to hear you think this board would hold its own against the new version
manuel- any reason why you prefer the Goya 2017 quad over the 20-22 fanatic grip?

I'm around the 95kg mark and and sail Fanatic for a good few years. I've had a 2016 Quad 81, 2018 Grip 82 and now 2022 Grip 82. For my weight I use them mainly with 4.2 - 3.3 but also use them for well powered 4.7 side shore conditions sometimes.

As a comparison the Quad 81 was a touch better for proper side-shore waves but definitely needed a little more power to plane. Grip (2018) is definitely quicker to plane, more lively in on-shore conditions and better with the 4.7 but ever so slightly stiffer when going front side in proper waves. The current model is supposed to improve this a bit but I've only sailed it once and that was in 4.2 on-shore conditions so couldn't really tell, otherwise it felt almost identical.

I haven't had an opportunity to sail Goya for a long time but from they certainly have a good reputation so I think board should be nice for what you want, will just come down to personal taste.

I am a long time Goya Quad user. In brief- I love them. The turning point was the 2016/2017 edition. Imho that MB model redefined the quad concept. Iconic. Watching Brawzinho's powerful hacks with that model hooked me in into Goya. 2018/2019 models were also good but somewhat strange- narrow and thick. Btw I didn't like the colors-too much black. 2020/2021- back to the" more width" concept- a good move. Vibrant graphics. Not the lightest of wave boards, but durable. On the water - pure rad joy. I had the 74 and the 79 version. I am keeping the 79. Magic board. I have added the custom 3 75 2021 after hearing some rave reviews, I haven't tried it yet. As for the 2022 quads- up to 74 l they are the same as 2020/2021- only change in color and slot boxes (imho not necessarily a good move). Maybe lighter (no weight mentioned) . From my experience I would recommend you the 74l as one board do it all. The bigger volumes have new shapes. Goya claims they are even better-well if Goya/ Quatro says so... You can ride the 74 from 3.0 to 4.7 with no issues and can play with fin size. The 68 l - well.. ok.. but too smallish... I can write a lot about the goya quads if someone is interested and not bored. Guess this helps.

You are pretty light. At your weight I would go the 68. As far as Grip vs. Goya, I have sailed both - though not in that size or the latest generations. Think I sailed grip 82 & 76 & Goya 79 & previous 80... In general I would say my impression is the Goya is a bit livelier - it is rocket fast & very loose. The Grip has a good turn of speed but sits lower in the water & IMHO a bit more control with slightly stiffer turn. Personally I preferred the Goya for it's lively feel. I think you would be happy with either board for Gorge sailing in the right size.

Going off of what I witness here locally + recoup with online findings + less expensive + own experience with these two brands.

3.0 and 74 you'll have to have your mast track forward, the multi fin will help but still. At 72kg+ I had a hard time with 77L 56cm wide in nuking 35-55 knots. Only going upwind. I'd go smaller.

My 60kg friend tried a 60L board with 4.5 when blowing strong 22-30 knots. Was ok but imagine at 25-35.... the 74 with be too big.

I was on 4.2 sail, maybe 20-25kts idk. Conditions were no where near as messy as Gorge, so not sure how it will handle that kind of chop but i guess it would improve your turns on wave.

Quatro mono 67 sounds like the perfect board for your spot, why do you want to change it, is it too lively over harsh water?

Quatro mono 67 is super fun. It's a great board. Looking to learn to make nice turns in the swells in the gorge and the quad deal seems to be the choice. Single fin is really fun as well but perhaps a bit more linear, locked in and less turn focused.

You should be able to demo both at Big Winds - even if not the right size to get an idea of the boards character. Eddy is also very helpful & knowledgeable... I stand by my opinion: Goya more lively, Grip more control... both good boards & upgrade over the Mono...

Another vote for Goya, I'm in love with the 2020 94ltr and 114ltr. Simply phenomenal boards. Most of my friends, however ride Fanatic and swear by them. You really can't go wrong with either brand IMHO. I ride the 94ltr in high wind with chop/swell paired with a 4.0/4.5/5.0, it does very well in onshore and cross offshore. If you're on a wave the thing just does whatever you want it to, turns on a dime and is lively and fun.
