I'm heading for a wave sailing session on Sunday morning. I am advanced bump and jump but new to waves.

Where should I go?

to the pub... doesn't look the best
you need a decent SW for Point Danger to work, looking at the forecast it doesn't look like it will be much more than 10-15 knots max early then dropping off...

I was thinking of a road trip to Point danger but as ka222 says dosn't look that the SW will get there. Unfortunate because the tide is high around 2pm

Hey ka222, what forecast are you looking at? The central coast waters forecast from BOM says:
Sunday 16 February
Winds
Southwesterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching 30 knots in the morning.
Seas
1.5 to 2.5 metres.
Swell
Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres before dawn.

I was thinking of heading down there early Sunday, but I've never sailed there so so e local knowledge Wouk be great! Is the computer modelled forecast on MetEye more reliable?

Maybe North Ricketts would be better with this forecast??

Lads. I thought this was the best forecast tool

www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml?location=vic-mel&tz=AEDT

What do you use?

I'm heading down. Leo or point danger ? It's going to be low tide? Where would you go?

Both are high tide spots. Leo needs a big swell to work. Danger picks up what ever is around so I would go there if you had to choose.

Good one Al.

Thanks to the guys at SHQ I'm doing a demo on a SUP with a wave sail tomorrow at Torquay.

Forecast accuracy?
At 8am it was about 16knots. From 9 to 11 it was about 21 knots.
Swellnet got it right. So did this bom site
www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml?location=vic-mel&tz=AEDT

The waves were about two foot with some sets around three. They were full and breaking in different spots. It's only my second time at point danger and I am yet to find the ideal launch spot to get the good waves.

The SUP
I started on the JP SUP 9"2'. It's 136l and is easy to ride. It points up wind well. I would say however that the nose rides quite high and is therefore hard to get on the plane. It turns slowly - like my JP 101 FSW.

The sail I used was too big (6.0 gator) I think this contributed to the slow turning. I don't think these SUPs work in the waves with anything more than a 5.5m.

When the wind picked up it was hard to control. No foots traps = catapult. I swapped to the FSW.

I also took this SUP for a paddle in the bay. I started out as a total spaz. But after 10mins I got the hang of it.

It's really cool knowing that after driving to Torquay, if there was no wind, I had the option of paddle boarding

Yep there is a great spot on P.I that works on a SW - but it's like Pt Leo and is inside the bay, so needs a huge swell and and incoming tide before it even breaks

Hopefully you get to see it first hand yourself in March Dunko! Al has guaranteed 25 knots and mast high every day of the comp or your money back
