I need some reviews on SUP boards around the 135-150ltr volume. I am a regular paddler, kiter and sailor. The board needs to be capable of planing quickly when sailing, withstand the added pressures of wavesailing, with the usual qualities of any good surfing sup.

I've just got myself a Fanatic Allwave 9'6", I haven't tried it yet but it looks to have a surf orientated rocker line. I hope to get it out this week so I'll let you know how it goes. A few others have them where I sail and rate them so my hopes are high, and they are quite well priced for what you get.

I've got a fanatic Allwave 8'10". The board is nice and loose on a wave (suping). I've yet to try it on a wave with a sail.

Don't expect a SUP to plane up quickly, they don't really plane like a sailboard, you get to a certain point and then they get very draggy.

The beauty of the SUP w Sail in the surf is that you can glide out (with a sail) in 5-10 knots. On the way back, a couple of pumps to get on the wave and then your surfing. Even a gumby surfer like myself can have a lot of fun.

Been SUP ing for 6 years now and really dig it in small medium waves with little to no wind

but never really got the whole light wind SUP sailing - it never felt as good as just bashing around with the paddle - so much looser when you loose the rig

Have witnessed LORD hamilton at HOOKIPA in 4. 7 weather getting as many or more waves than the windsurf crew with just a paddle.

use the paddle till its 12 knots- way looser when you can get your weight back on the board.

then use a real board and sail combo. If you are into light wind wave boards - the NUDE CHOPPERS are mind blowing. I cant wait to try a 100 or 110 - as my 90 is the loosest board i have ridden to date- and at 61cm wide it has no right to be as good as it is

Sup sailing is gumby,,

Ok paddling isn't the best fun in 15 knts but you do get the added bonus of its a piece of piss to catch a wave with the wind on your back.

Got an old 9'8 starby and with a 5.6 on a 10-15 knt cross off day it's a sh!tload o fun - I get the sup sailing combo and it's fun - don't let reflex put you off - put Straps on the wave side and it's as loose as a goose cutties reos down the line speed - but It planes like a pig dragging a pallet o bricks - you may be asking too much if you want to meet all the criteria in your post though - apparently the newer starbys are a lot better planing wise

The 2 closest beaches to my place are either side of a seriously wind-disrupting headland. But both sides have down-the-line sailing in NE and S. Unfortunately you still need a consistent light wind to ride the floatier wave boards, where the SUP boards have the extra 30+ ltrs to make it to the next wind patch, and into waves.
It drives me crazy when there is more than 8-10knts of cross-off on a wave if I am surfing or Supping. I like swapping a rig for a paddle, and I don't know about Laird, but I get more waves if I am sailing. I find that the rig gives good pivot and drive, like or better than a paddle IMO.
The 9'6" I just sold was around 15kgs and felt too boggy.
I look forward to hearing the planing ability of the 8'10" Allwave.
Has anybody sailed the Angulo 9', Tabou 9'2", or similar?.

does sweet little cuttties and can hit the lip even with a bit of fin waft.

I was lucky enough to witness this and you could have sworn Scotty was on a normal windsurf board. He was getting vertical on this thing and slashing the top turn like a bandit. Extremely dynamic board for a SUP Windsurfer.

I know no one does it like Scotty but the board he was using has definate potential as a Sup Windsurfer. To all those non believers - believe it is true!!!

SUP sailing is highly edumucational for gumby wave sailors (like moi). It all happens in light winds and at much slower speeds.

Now where was that wave. Oh, back there.

I saw the photo of Scotty that Vantoor posted in another thread and swore that Scotty was on a SUP. You can see how light the wind is in the background. Plus the forecast hasn't really been epic the past few weeks there either.
I sail my Starboard 9'8 x 29 in light winds and it's super fun. Also been SUPing and sailing the 8'5 x 29 lately. So much fun that I just had to get one.

I found a 2009 8'5" TIKI, trying it out at Currumbin and it goes really well, even a few bigger waves,

It has a mini tuttle centre fin though, which limits the fin size,

I found a 17cm from Black projects but I'd be keen to try a 20 if anyone has one.

Got my new Fanatic Allwave out over the weekend and had an absolute ball. This boards not fast in flatwater conditions but in the surf it is a whole lot of fun. It can punch out through some solid surf and is super stable and makes it so easy to catch waves. I went out with my 5.8 Atlas in some very light winds and surf up to shoulder high at times and had the biggest smile on my face all day.

Here's a vid I quickly through together, It's from early in the day when conditions were not optimal and I was still getting use to the board. Later in the day when the GoPro had died and I sorted out how to turn the board things only got better...

After looking at various reviews, vids, listening to fellow SUPpers, and taking into consideration construction, future repairs and cost, I have decided on a locally hand-shaped epoxy SUP. For $850 I get a very well put together piece of equipment that includes some of my own design and graphics input. The shaper has a preferred width, tail rocker, rail shape/curve, and plan shape, so I asked for 135ltrs and left the length up to him (under 9ft).
With the shaper having 5 years or so of high-performance supping, 10 years kiting, aswell as countless years of wavesailing, I feel very confident that the final product will do the job nicely. Once I got over the expectation of planing easily, the decision to get a surf-specific board was easy. And once that decision was made, the logic in having a proven, local surf/sup shaper produce a board for my specific needs was crystal clear. Getting an epoxy board for a half to two-thirds the cost of most other surf-SUPs is a very welcome added bonus. I paid the deposit last Wednesday, so with production time of 3 weeks, I will be on it in a fortnight tomorrow.
I will post something once I ride it.

I doubt that he'll be off me if I give him a plug here, it's Rod Hocker and his brand is SurfShapes. I have 9 days till' I can pick up mine. I will post some photos/vid asap.

With the $$ I saved by getting a local custom instead of asian factory, Rod will also be shaping me an 80ltr quad for normal sailing conditions. Rod showed me his techniques for strengthening decks/rails/etc. So simple, so logical, it is great to see Aussie ingenuity and craftmanship in action.

Just got a call from the shaper, my new stick will be ready to pick up in 2 days. A week ahead of schedule, and a final weight around 8.4kgs, sensational!. There is a southerly predicted on Thursday with 2ft swell atleast, so I should be able to post something Friday.
How good is the feeling of anticipation to ride your own custom.
Surely I can't get the new-gear-jinx with only 5-10knts needed. That would be a new level of Hughey cruelty.

Picked up my new SUPsailing board yesterday arve. It looks and feels unreal. 270x78x13.5 8.4kgs 135ltrs.
Can't wait for this rain to stop to get on it.

Had a couple of hours in 8-12knt cross-off 1-3ft th'sarve, super loose on the wave. No rails catching, you can muck around right in the pocket or put some weight forward to get to or around the next section. Looking forward to riding my natural side. The quad chugs up wind well enough (could use slightly bigger fins but I will leave it for now). Nice light board with plenty of nose lift pops you over broken waves. Taking off late (8knts) on a solid 3ft I appreciated the progressive bottom shape, it takes off fast.
I paddled it yesterday, I definitely need to improve my paddling style on a 9ft with quads (95kgs). On the wave it's very responsive to back foot pressure, nice and loose. As I said it takes off very quick. My SUPsurfing will improve for sure on this girl.
Great board that didn't break the bank, allowing for a new wave board and surf/kite board that will atleast test the marriage, if not the bank account.
I'll try to get some video, SUPsailing in the waves is great fun on very average sorts of days. I'm tragically addicted.
