I've just come back from 10 days in Bali. Went for relaxation so didn't surf / windsurf / kite.

Of the 10 days you could have probably sailed about 4 or 5 on the west side of the Island. Wind was probably upto 15 knts cross off. Swell on the bigger days was up to about 6 foot. I think with a floaty wave board and 5.3 / 5.5 it would have been a lot of fun.

Try these guys for info on where to go for potential hire options: http://www.jumpandjibe.com/jumpandjibe.com/home.html

I recently read somewhere that there is more wind on the North West side of the Island. There is apparently also a spot up north that regularly gets 25knts+. I can't verify that as it's all hear say but it apparently get's windy enough for them to stop running the ferry to Java. No idea if there are waves or not.

don't plan to go until late july early august which should be right in the middle of the east wind season ,
hope I can hire some gear as don't want the hassle of carting board and sails !!!

If you are thinking about wave sailing I'd probably take my own gear. Most of the wave spots break over reef so gear damage is very likely.

Jetstar should take boards no problem as it's an international flight. On my flight they had about 20 surf boards and 3 SUPs.

I stayed in Sanur over Easter to go SUPing and saw some modern sailing gear walking past the Sanur Beach hotel, where the Rip Curl School of Surf is. Sanur would be a great spot to sail at mid to high tide (no water for 1km at low tide). It is protected inside the reef if you like bump and jump and has great surf if you venture out. Was 4-6 foot the first day I surfed . Good thing about the reef there is it's too far for shortboards to paddle out to so you get plenty of time before the boats arrive. Probably have it to yourself if it's windy. Lots of water movement inside the reef though when the surf is up and the tide is racing. The paddle home was hard work!

This is great info. Wish there was more - Bali is so close and family happy to go but no windsurfing info that helps so I have been resistant. More detail will help your fellow desperados (including me)! Best time of year, resort close to windsurf spot etc... Would pay good smiley faces for details!!!
