It is my great great pleasure to announce that the 2012 Wave Nationals WILL take place at Woolgoolga, NSW on the dates of (28/9 - 5/10).

A massive thanks must go out to Warren Holder and Tim Williams for coming to the table and offering expertise and support to make this happen! This will be a QLD event and run by the QLD association which is being formed as we speak.

Anyway, this is obviously great news and the spring dates mean everyone (including the organisers) have plenty of time to make sure we all make this an incredible event. We already have sponsors on board to support the event and this list is growing, so stay tuned for more updates when they arrive.

For those who want confirmation on these dates, these are pretty well locked in stone as the NSWWA event will be happening soon after and this is part of thier season calender.

Also there has been discussion on the General forum about the impact of the event of the event site. On this note we will aim to have a plan in regards to minimising this impact, but please remember it is ultimately each individuals responsibility to make sure they do thier part and respect the environment and others who use the event site and surrounding areas.

Cheers, hope everyone is getting some wind and waves whereever they may be.

Will

For those who haven't been to Woolgoolga/Woopi:

Woopi in the big southerly '09

Woopi in the big southerly '09

Don't have any pics of the spot in a NE'r - but this shows the spit set up...

Main beach at Woopi - excellent for SUPing. Can camp on the beach front

We had a massive day at Event 1 of NSWWA 2011-12 series - all pics on our website! It'll be an amazing venue for a Nationals.

Ok - An update of movements forward!!

Firstly - please join the 2012 nationals Facebook page for the latest
and greatest updates on event news. This will be the epicentre of
information regarding the event (as well as updates on SB) so please
head there and like the page so you are in the loop!
http://www.facebook.com/2012AustralianWavesailingNationals

Thank you for all the people who have come to the table thus far and
offered advice and support for making this event happen. I will be
acting as contest director for this event, and as there is a large
amount of effort going into making this event happen, I am extremely
grateful for any support!

I had the pleasure of checking out/testing the event site during
easter with head high waves and 25+ knots - this place is incredible.
Cross off, clean waves with plenty of smackable sections and clean
wind on the wave face. This was on a S/SE so riding was on starboard
tack, but the setup works equally as well on NE/port tack conditions.
The sand spit makes the waves peel really well, so surfing/SUPing in
the morning before the seabreeze gets up should cater to all our
needs!

So, here is some more info on the event, which should be an absolute cracker,

EVENT LOCATION

Woolgoolga, NSW

EVENT DATES

Firstly, confirmation of the dates in the original post - we are a go
go from 29th Sept-6th (this is from Sat until Sat - prize giving on
the Saturday night). This means that we will aim to kick off the
single elimination of minor divisions on the Saturday and start the
Open Pro divisions off on the sunday, thus giving those from
interstate some time to travel to the event. The event party and
prizegiving will be run on Saturday the 6th, with Sunday either an
expression session or left free for those who need to get back home.

DIVISIONS

At this stage, the following divisions will be run:

Open Pro
Open Amateur
Masters
Grand Masters
Youth (<18yrs)
Womens

We need at least 2 competitors for each division to run, so spread the
word! Depending on numbers the Youth division may be split into mens
and women draws.

SPONSORS

So far we have had some great support offered and the pool of prizes
is looking extremely tasty!

Severne Sails have come on board as a major sponsor of the event which
is fantastic, and support has also been offered by a whole bunch of
other shops and companies which are in the process of being confirmed
as i write this! These will be

Overall we will have plenty of support to make this an incredible
event and ensure there are plenty of quality prizes to be handed out!

ENTRY FEES & DATES:

In order to ensure that we have sufficient confirmed entrants for each
division to run, we are offering an early bird discount on
registration. The entry fees are being confirmed in the next week so
stay tuned to the facebook page for the latest details. The early bird
discount will be offered up to the 1st of September 2012, so you will
need to fill out your entry form and make payment by that date to grab
the deal!

More info on these prices, entry processes and what the price includes
is coming very soon.

The conditions around the event dates are pretty consistent, and we
are aiming to get straight into a second double elimination during the
week once the first round is completed. NSWWA have been holding thier
summer series events here each year, and they have had great success
in the past in getting good conditions during the events. So - get on
board, book accomodation and tell everyone!!!

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY

We are lucky enough to have Whitecaps Photography come onboard to
cover the event as the official photographer. Jody has an impressive
reputation (and a proven one at that!) around the states for capturing
some amazing images, and it is a pleasure to have her onboard to
capture all the trickery and debauchery (not that any of that occurs
of course...) of this event.

Contact:

I have put up my hand to take on the role as contest director for the
event, and will be working to make sure everything runs as smoothly as
possible. If you have any queries about the event or would like to
offer your support in any way, please send me a message on Seabreeze
or via the facebook page, and I will endevour to respond as soon as I
can.

Anyway, hopefully Huey is treating you all to some wind and waves. I
am looking forward to seeing you there! Dont forget to like the

sounds great, Can there be a lay day on the 2nd October as i am planning another post birthday hangover this year. Although the 2nd did bring some pretty gnarly conditions last year. Tequila, vindaloo and huge wipeouts...winning combo!

So the event will be held at Flat Top Island, or will it be moved around to suit the conditions? Very keen to shoot up for a look during the event. I'm only learning so no competing for me, but very keen to cheak out the action from the safety off the bank.

I hope there's some good media coverage, as this amazing sport certainly needs some air time (pardon the pun) to get some new recruits happening. Basically no-one sails here on the mid north coast.

Anyway, I'll be there if only to sit on the beach and marvel at what the pros can do.

Cheers.
