Does anyone know if this is a good spot for wavesailing.
Was out there this weekend, beautiful place and looked like the Thurra River area had some potential.
Checked the wind rose data on the BOM website and looks like wind is pretty consistent from SW (cross shore).
Has anyone sailed there?
cheers

yes gave it a crack some 20 odd years ago, only sailed it once on small swell and 20 odd knots, gets pretty messy, also sailed the muir inlet which was better, but can remember it was a trek in there back then, I used to go there every chrissy, haven't been back there for a long time. if your there, and its on, go for it.

Thanks mate. I think you mean Mueller inlet, the next spot to the east? Looks like there's a bit of a reef there.
It's a day trip from where we live (near Tathra) so will probably head there and give it a go when it looks promising.

I've never sailed at Pt Hicks but have sailed quite a few times about 15 ks further east at Fly Cove (Wingan Inlet) or in Tamboon Inlet. Fun little wave sessions at Fly Cove and good flat water in Tamboon, but I usually got NE or E wind, rather than a solid SW onshore. The trouble with the offshore wind was it tended to be very holey, which I suspect you'd get at Pt Hicks too if it had any north in it. OK once you're out the back, but not much use with no power once you get into the break zone. Plus next stop is Tassie of New Zealand if anything fails.
Being so close to the seal colony at Wingan, any watertarts out the back were really quick.
Give it a crack.
