I've never sailed at inverloch, May be interested to get down there once (it looks a bit closer to Melb).
Are the sailing conditions there similar to sandy pt ?
Is there wave sailing possibility as well ?
Where do you usually meet guys? Inlet Angling Club (88 The Esplanade) ?
cheers

Inverloch has one of the best wavesail beaches in vic and has a inlet that is great for bump and jump type sailing. The windsurf runs in the inlet dont seem to be as long as the pit, but the wind is great and much better up there than the bay. I think the wind is just as good as the pit.

Most sail from the Angling club. There are other launching spots like the Town Beach and Rotary BBQ however from the Angling Club we get a small speed strip pop up at low tide. No where near the quality of the PIT but it works and we have fun. A couple of us improved our pb's on Tuesday.
Not that I am a wave sailor so take windtechno's advice on that but around the corner in Venus bay I have heard a lot of wave sailors claim that to be Bloody good.
RPS and KA are doing a Demo day at the Angling Club next Sunday and we(Inverloch Windsurfing Club) have Allison Shreeve(Bass Strait girl/Salom World Champion) there on the 28th and 29th November for clinics

Follow the local guys and sail in anyother direction but this i would suggest

Inverloch only works on West and all the way round to East winds anything with north in it is no good.

Hi Matth,

Inverloch Windsurfing Club is bringing Allison Shreeve down from Sydney for a range of clinics for beginners to advanced. They will be a 2 hr session with a max of 6 sailors per session. $60 per session which includes a 1 hr theory session on both mornings. If you PM me with your email address I will send through details in the next couple of days. Also check out our website at www.driftmedia.com.au/iwc

Shhhhhh......it definately has potential. I'd say anything with south in it is possible.

When there's a north- north westerly, there's also Doyle's road on the Venus Bay side. It needs a mid to high tide tho'.

Has anybody sailed at the Inverloch surf beach? What are the conditions like for learning wave sailing? What are the conditions I should look out for (wind, swell, tide) and are there any dangers to watch out for?

I only tried wave sailing once, at this spot, on a day with pretty big swell and next to no wind. Got pummeled in the shore break, nearly made it out but went over the handlebars trying to quickly get over a wave that was about to break, then got pummeled again. Tore a batten out of my sail, then broke the UJ tendon. Not my best day...

Hi Tristan,

Inverloch surf beach; fantastic wave sailing.
Westerly wind is cross / off at the main surf beach: a little flukey but excellent DTL. Very safe beach to sail in waves.
SW best to sail off Ozone Street (messy cross on at the main surf beach) out across the bar: cross onshore to the surf but very very clean inside, excellent jumping; unbelievably fun, good backside riding. Just watch the outgoing tide: ideally stay on the beach side of the channel, however OK to cross the channel all across to Point Smythe / Venus Bay when incoming.
SE / E winds can be magic; only problem is they flatten the surf a fair bit after a day or two. Launch at Ozone St and sail upwind up the bar a bit (if outgoing tide) or the next carpark, or even better at the first toilet block in the inlet and sail across the channel to a sensational speed run at mid - low into the left handers breaking at the inner bar or the longer / bigger left handers on the outer bar that break all the way down to Ozone St. On a good day, equal to anywhere for long DTL.
Other excellent nearby DTL spots with heavier surf: Williamsons Beach or Woolamai on a SE or NW, Right Point (Phillip Island) SW.
Have fun!
