With these South east, and easterly winds over the few days. Where's the best flat water place to windsurf on the bellarine peninsula?

I would sail Pt Henry. Even though the winds are 'offshore' from where I launch, its all smooth water.

Sounds good, but i'm only a beginner, and have trouble making it upwind...

Would go to the lake but it's closed. How long for do you think?

Doesnt matter if you are a beginner at Pt Henry. If you use the southern carpark launching area, its only fairly shallow for quite a way out. On Sunday it was low tide about 2pm and I could still touch bottom 1/2 the way over to the animal health laboratory.
While practicing, just head up and down the point. When I was learning I mostly sailed the Pt and managed to stay in waist deep water.
I would say the lake will be unsailable for a little while yet.

Another place you can try, depending on wind strength, is Pt Richards. Great rigging area (end of carpark), shallow with nice clean water and sandy bottom etc. If its blowing more than 15 knots it gets a bit choppy there though.

I had been tempted to look at Grammar school area with these easterlies. I reckon the spot between the lagoon and the refinery wouldn't be bad. ideal for beginner with onshore in the Easterlies. Never actually been there though as a sailor. Only used to launch the fishing boat off there with my Dad when we had the boat.

What's Eastern Park like? Too choppy in an Easterly? I see there's good rigging areas, and access.

No good if its Eastern beach. The cliffs on your East from the area protect it too much that the wind at sea level is up and down. I've gone out there to the park veiwing the bay on many a lunch breaks. Its worse than the effect of Pt Henry on easterlies because the Point hasn't got as much land shadow for the wind to come back down before cleaning up.

If you launch from there you'd probably need to get out further past the Eastern gardens cliffs and also far away from the jet skiers. No doubt you'll find 1 with attitude if you sail back and forth in close to the beach on a nice sunny day.

Yachts play out further, too far out if your learning and need the reassurance of nearby land you can drift back to easily for any self recovery. Thats 1 spot I am been tempted to go out too, especially with the fact that its so close to home for seting up and launching. Otherwise Eastern Beach I'll only play at in close if its northerly and there jetski traffic is not bad.

Just to followup the day I posted my idea of looking at grammer school area. It turns out there were some kiters closer to the refinery end of that stretch of beach. A workmate saw them and told me about it the next day. Looking forward to going there on my next day off with a good Easterly.

{End of rambling} :D
