I don't like Lysterfield Lake.

The wind is gusty, you're on and off the plane and even the odd backwind.


Not good for speed but great for unintentional freestyle moves like everyone's favourite, the over the boom body roll.


And Patterson river. The smell of poo poo's and funnelled wind makes it a memory I want to forget.

Here...for the past few months the wind hasn't reached above 15kts (great for the fishing though), and when it finally gets above it, gusty & offshore.

Point Henry. Enough said.

Oh, was George being serious??? I never know... Ok then, can't say I have a worst spot. Depends on the day!

Green point never fails to disappoint, expensive parking with a horrid wind shadow.
just up the road the kites use a huge beach with nice rigging area and free parking!!!!!!!

Rowville Lakes has some incredible wind shifts, lots of ducks too.

point henry is one of my favorites.

I've a love/ hate relationship with Williamstown. It can be great but but most of the time there are friggen jellyfish everywhere, lots of weird surfers, a painful rocky outcrop that extends a little too far, parking fees, and annoying lifesavers

Evan - One thing I forgot to mention about Point Henry is you need to be careful about SOME of the locals. They do have a tendancy to bring out the banjos! Not that I would mention any names Jacques and Red but Tony keeps them in line abit.

I don't mind a bit of Banjo play'in every now and then, but it would depend on the situation!

It must be ok at Point Henry for the LOCALS to intimidate out of towners with Banjo's though. Maybe I'm missing something special about the place. I'd much rather take my chances with the infamous wind shadow at Green Point!

Seriously though, I think northerlies in Melbourne are unpredictable at the best times and I really cant see it being much better anywhere else. GP has treated me fairly well (parking excluded)

My belief for what it is worth is that Swan Bay seems to be more predictable than the other side of the bay and hence why I am happy to travel 2 hours to get there. Have only had one disappointment in the 10 plus times I have windsurfed there

Its interesting that our side of the pond never tends to float people boats... sure we dont have nice sandy beaches/bottoms or lovely grass areas to rig on.. but... when your on the water who cares. The fact that we have 3 spots within 15 minutes of each other that have had 40+ knot runs done on them is enough.. In fact once you get over the fact that point henry isnt pretty its probably one of the best spots for beginners/intermediates in victoria. Open water, shallow enough to stand but gets deeper further out and no current/tides to deal with.... And thats just flat water... Add point danger, 13th beach, point impossible and all the other awesome wavesailing around im happy to have the place to ourselves...

Point henry does suck in a northerly but swan bay doesnt.. Jacques 46knots proves it..

Always been lucky at GP. Had some awesome sessions there, and with the backdrop of Melbourne CBD behind you, Awesome

I cut my foot and it glowed toxic green for about a month.

Sailing spots in the west must be good as the wind is pretty good most evenings, kiters use Altona and I have seen a windsurfer mixing it up out there in great conditions. Point cook coastline park looks like it could be good also. Are we missing out on some great sailing?

Cherry Lake was good fun in the early days, when it was the safest place to sail in a big northerly. Learned to gybe there out of necessity. Virtually had to use an organic solvent to clean the board if you ever put your foot into the petrochemical slime. Ah fond memories! Now off for my next dose of chemo.
