I have been windsurfing in port Melbourne most of winter. Still just above beginner stage. However I would like to sail with others. I have not seen another board in the bay!

Where do others sail. I think it would help me improve get tips etc?

Dude you need to join Elwood Sailing Club!

We have a heap of lockers to store your gear in and regular(ish) get togethers. We have about 50 active windsurf members and there are always a few of us down there during the summer evenings and on weekends, as long as there's a breeze on. Come straight from work in your car or on your push-bike and get on the water in 10 minutes, followed by a hot shower and a cold beer.

There are always a few guys of varying levels of qualification to provide the full spectrum of tips from sage advice to complete bull**** and we're 2 minutes walk from RPS when you break something :)

PM me for contact details, or go down to the club on Saturday afternoon and ask for Mark the Club Manager or a windsurfer to show you around. I'd be happy to do the honours if you contact me.

Hi Bero,
There are plenty of crew out there sailing the Bay. Elwood, Bonbeach, Green Point, through to the Mornington Penninsula. There are also crews sailing Point Henry, Swan Bay, Lake Connewarre. I myself love to make the trip to Inverloch to do my sailing. I love flat water and we always have a good turnout.

There are about 20-30 guys that sail out of St Kilda West (before kite beach) every arvo...

I used to live in Port Melbourne, sailed there occasionally, but mostly travelled to St Kilda West for a few reasons:
- I think the wind was a little better
- better launch angle for sailing in the S/SSE seabreezes.
- ... thus good swell-riding and jumping
- rigging on big grassy lawns
- fresh-water shower to wash yourself off
- flat water for learning behind the marina-breakwater

Summer seabreezes kick in somewhere between 3pm - 5pm, then die about 5:30pm - 7pm
- watch the baywx.com graphs
- avoid the 4:55pm gridlock at St Kilda junction (ie: get to the beach about 4:30pm or so)

I'm gonna say "usually"... with the caveat of some people start early, then leave early... other start late, leave late.

And by "ever arvo", I mean "every arvo it is windy".

I sail St Kilda and it's great, can get busy in the summer with the kites but fun all the same. Parking can be tricky at times but most of the time it's fine and the price is not the end of the world. The rigging on the grass and the road crossing is interesting then the bike path all makes for a top day at the beach.
