Is there anywhere decent to windsurf down the great ocean road? I'm heading to wye river for long weekend and wondering whether to chuck gear in. Bear in mind I ain't good enough to take on waves... So a nice flat water spot that might work for me! New to this forum caper... Thanks in advance!

There are some good locations down there.
Pt Roadknight (near Anglesea) is a really nice beach that gets only small waves and faces a different direction so stays nice and clean when the main beaches have big waves and choppy water.
Check it on a map.

+1 for Roadnight.
Gentle swell, great little point break which is not too gnarly...

I'd add, if you keep away from the point break, it is much easier than sailing at most spots on the Bay.

If you're staying at Wye River, it'd be a bit of a drive to go back to Roadnight.

Kennett River would be worth trying, but only in a small swell and cross-on wind. Might be bit cramped for room in the same conditions at Wye River, plus the bay will kill the wind.

You might head for Apollo Bay or go back to Lorne and try the open beaches to the east of the township.

Hope this helps.

Lake Connewarre is a good flat water venue near barwon. Think it works on a South to s.w and Point Henry is also flat water but forgotten the required wind directions, (a variety of them I think)
Both are also shallow water venues but weed fins may help but I ve never used one at either.
