Following the success of the 2010/11 learn to windsurf series and the Kids Club, WV will be further developing the kids club and windsurfing within the youth of Victoria.

The program will be called "WV Windsurfing Level 1 Certificate (Beginner)" and will be held at Sandringham Harbour. Meeting point is SBHQ Cafe - Jetty Road, Sandringham

The program will not only look to give kids the opportunity to get out onto the water, but will aim to also develop their sailing skills through a semi-structured curriculum which will equip them with the necessary tools to be able to safely and responsibly develop their windsurfing.

As children are tangible by nature, WV will be preparing formal certificates in recognition of each child's achievements.

The program curriculum will be mostly based around practical development of the primary windsurfing skills and competencies.

These include:
?Sailing short distances
?Basic Tacks/Jibes for turning
?Up-haul
?Self Rescue
?Water Safety - Theory
?Terminology - Theory

In addition, at the end of the program there will be a "WV Junior Ambassador Award", which will be awarded to the child that has shown the most dedication and heart during the duration of the program. This is not a competency based award. The criterion that the recipient of this award will be assessed on is as follows:

- Sportsmanship - fair play and courtesy.
- Attendance - Did not miss a single lesson.
- Punctuality - Was not late for a single lesson.
- Heart - Gave their best effort every time.

There will be a Mystery Surprise for the lucky recipient of the Award, so its definitely worthwhile giving it your best.

The program is targeted specifically at youth between the ages of 8 - 16.

All children will be supervised, however we ask that those parents that can help in the water if possible.

Program Details:

The proceeds of the program will go to the further development of the program and making windsurfing more accessible for children.

Hey,Maybe Alex can do a class with us or do some demos when you come down to Melbourne.

I was wondering if its OK that I use Alex's videos to show the kids and help promote the sport with the kids. If you have any spare DVD's of him send them down we can hand them out!

That would be really cool! Alex doesn't often get to windsurf with other kids around here. And of course it's OK to use the videos - I think kids really need to see other kids windsurfing to feel that it's something they can do too. How many DVDs do you think you'll need? We'll get back to you with a date as soon as we can organise the trip.

Hi KA360 and Jez,
Great stuff!
if you need copies of the DVD done, I'm happy to replicate them for free..particularly given what they are being used for.
PM me if you want me to do some copies.

I agree completely. Seeing another kid do it breaks down the barrier of "I cant do it, I am too small, its too heavy...etc..." The kids will all be starters, so Alex will be more a mentor than a sailing partner for them. He can be the guest instructor for the day!

It would be great if you could get the DVD's to Mick, (Drift). We would like about 24 -30 of them to cover off all the kids that will go through the program this summer.

Not sure if you can put together a best of Alex compilation, so that it all fits on one DVD?

Mick are you able to print covers for DVD cases? WV will reimburse you the costs?

Thanks alot guys for your support.

Hope to see Alex down here one of the dates!

Hey Jez,
One answer- yes.
We normally print on disk and slick insert, and if its only getting 30 done then I'm happy to cover it. I normally have our graphic designer do all the artwork as she has all the print templates and colour specs.
If you've got some artwork already, fling it my way.

What another big wv weekend. First the wv clinic and race series round 2 at MSC, Saturday and Sunday was the first of the wv kids club dates. We had about 17 kids on the water and many more watching. It was a great family day for all. Thanks to the wv crew, special guests Allison and Alex. Most importantly a big thank you to all that attended.

The salt on the t-shirt will give it that authentica vintage look;)

Next week make sure you get a rashie, it will be kids vs parents. There will be a mytery handicap that I will tell you about on the day.
