Ok I am concerned I have been in the area for the last days. Good wind, good spot, grassy area, free parking, and no one at the beach. What's that?
Right now there is 20 k is almost 4 pm and none in Altona. I have been driving around point cook, Werribee, even going as far as Williamstown, on the weekend and there isn't people doing water sports. I am a beginner and I was hopping to find someone to get some tips but no one around.

Am I missing something?

I'd love to try the strip at Williamstown, just can't get myself over that bridge in any decent amount time from the east. Too many people playing Xbox windsurfing maybe. Start a revolution, sail despite them. Geelong has a few sailor around. Or travell to Elwood, Dawsons ave on a seabreeze.

Altona is a good spot for windsurfing if you don't mind the shallow water for the first 300-400 mts and launching with the kiters. It works well on anything SE, best to launch from the city side of the pier (next to the no-boating sign) as the water is deeper and you can just clear the pier for a 4km run to Point Cook. If you sail in the right spot between the signs, its too shallow for windsurfing and full of kites, not great for learning. If you've thought about Cherry Lake - Don't. A mate sailed there and picked up a rash.
