A mans got to learn!

Where the hell can you find decent USED wide boards for learning? Is everyone holding on to theirs for some reason after they move on? Does it hold sentimental value?

There is nothing in any of the shops, seabreeze, ebay in Victoria - it seems that there is a 2nd hand learner board drought!

They are popular. Our Go170 sold in about 2 weeks (off peak season). Not only are they good for learning they are also great for light wind cruising/freestyle. Are you sure RPS have none? They often have boards out the back also.

I know SHQ don't. I'll try RPS. Problem is that they charge a premium because its bought from them. Much rather get it from the previous owner and cut out the middle man.

There is bound to be people out there holding onto their learner boards for some reason, as a family board or for their kids.

If they dont want to sell then maybe a private long term hire arrangement???

One of our starboard Go's will be up for sale quite soon.

I think it's a matter of keeping an eye out and get in quick!

I searched for well over 12 months with no result. Before christmas I was told RPS were selling off some second hand school boards so I raced down there and was told that they had none left. Last time I was at SHQ they had a big old second hand funster in the rack, might have been a demo. Good luck !!!!

Got a 165lt JP xcite in my shed! And apart from when I'm using it...that's where it'll stay.[}:)] Great for cruising, blasting in marginal conditions (I guess a bit like formula?). I hope to get the missus & kids started w/surfing on it...and recently bought a cheap paddle for it for those 'no-wind' days!

I think SHQ and RPS make more money selling wave boards, than the big fat learner boards. There is not a real lot of people in a hurry to learn to windsurf, with $3000 dollars in there pocket. The cost scare them and keep people, well away from taking up the sport. So they turn to kiting, surfing and stand up paddle boarding instead.

jermalden you know what i would do if i were you is look for a old long board in the trading to post to learn on first. you can pick them up for like 150 bucks. you dont need fancy gear to learn to windsurf.

Windsurfing itself looks like a derivative of a surfing, means pumping adrenalin. As for the crusing you can have a second hand catamaran for $500 with a trailer. Look, some people spend $7000 on the bike, some on the car. Welcome to the club of ever young...

Hi Guys...dont rule out the windsurfable SUP as an option. Naish (as well as many other brands now days) make several SUP options that take a windsurfer mast base attachment..maybe also search in the SUP 'buy and sell' section and you may find something suitable. The SUP option obviously also opens up a another exciting water activity as well as being a great learner and general light wind cruising windsurfing board.

cheers

Now I have my wide board, wow amazing what a difference it makes (thanks NoFixedAbode). Not easily manouverable though... Learnt the hard way whilst impaling my sail on a yacht. Apparently it was ammusing to watch.

K Dog, OzBiker I know you were laughing...

Down one sail unless I can do a cheap repair on this one. Not sure its worth it though.
