As a learner I struggle with westerlies in Bayside because of the chop.
But I have limited opportunities to sail and if I get a leave pass I don't want to miss it!
I haven't really seen much talk about Westernport on Seabreeze.... And as Westernport isn't far and a westerly is offshore in a bunch of places (from Balnarring to Somers to Cerberus and Hastings) I was wondering if its suitable for a good sail?
Anyone have any thoughts / experience sailing (non wave) in Westernport? Suitable launching places, areas to avoid etc etc.
thanks!
With a handle like "gnotukker" I'm guessing you must be near Chelsea or there abouts.
Firstly, suggesting at sailing in offshore conditions is a recipe for disaster.... I wouldn't suggest sailing a Westernport in a Westerly, unless you plan on sailing on the eastern side of it.
As for "where to sail in a westerly"... Rye isn't that far away from Chelsea -> works in an Easterly through to North, continuing round to the West (a bit offshore in a SW'er). Today was a Westerly of 4.2-5.0m weather at 9am - 1pm... very-good bump and jump conditions - little air's on the inside, big air out back.
That said, a Westernport seabreeze, either southerly or easterly, is definitely worth it.
