Hi, I am an advanced (but not pro) windsurfer addicted to waves, and I will move to Melbourne from Perth in a couple of months. Are there any recommended wave sailing spots in (or near) Melbourne? Ideally I'm looking for spots as consistent as Margaret River in WA. Maybe Sandy Point?
Cheers!
One thing we have in Vic is variety Jetro but you are going to be disappointed if you are looking for consistency. Just about all of our wave sessions are one day wonders, not like Gnarloo where you can park for 2 weeks and wave sail just about every day. Never sailed Margret's so not sure how consistent the seabreezes are there.
Some pretty good wave spots but nearest is Point Leo an hour from Melbourne off peak and the others (Phillip Island, Sandy Point, Point Impossible, Poo Point/13th beach, Torquay) 2 hours away. Nice thing is we get both tacks and a range of reef and beach breaks. Melbourne traffic makes Perth peak hour look like a Sunday drive which makes the cross city wave chase a challenge though.
We have a pretty keen wave crew here in Melbourne so let us know when you get here and we'll add you to our Messenger group.
