Hey boys & girls we are keeping a very close eye on the forecast for this Sat for the chance to run the fourth round of the VWS...

Forecasts are for wind, swell & 31 degrees! What more do we need!

Sat is looking like a SE around 20-25knots
The wind will certainly be very strong at Sandy Pt, but unfortunately the swell will be very small and probably only knee to waist high at Sandy Pt.

Woolamai beach will have much more swell than Sandy Pt, around head - logo high and although the wind will be a bit lighter than Sandy Pt, the SE is a perfect direction for wave riding at Woolamai

Check out the location guide here:
http://www.vicwavesailing.org/locations/woolamai

A final decision will be made tomorrow arvo Friday 16/12 once we see the latest forecasts and if we call the event ON we will let you know briefing and location details
Stay tuned!!

Would just like to point out that Woolamai is not always super gnarly like some make it out to be. These pics were from last week on a very similar forecast - inconsistent 3-4ft of swell. There were decent sized waves coming through but more often than not the swell was quite small and perfectly manageable for intermediate level wavesailors.

There are deep rips at Woolamai between the sand banks that make it very easy to sail out and avoid getting hit by waves. You can often get out without sailing over whitewater once on this sized swell.

Average size was often under head high.

Nice sized sets

Hope to see everyone down there rather than ending up at Sandy point sailing in knee high waves!

may be a tough one to attend week before christmas, i know i am only a very very slim chance, or it may be a christmas turkey for one with a letter froma lawyer. Hope forecast lives up to it and if i dont get there Tom enjoys some cheap points :)

Darren,
Tough would be Xmas day! Man up and stop being so stupid! Your lovely wife will not give you a letter from a lawyer for Xmas. I am sure she has already been xmas shopping so it is more likely to arrive in the New Year.
You need the time on the water if you are going to improve so stop all this crazy talk and start planning. You also need to bring the Ginger one as well....

real good turnout, shame about the wind...

Al's summary of Woolami was spot on. Just gotta watch that shore break at high tide on the way in...

It was great watching some of the guys get out and, light wind, wave sail in super clean waves!

Matthew, thanks for the lend of the Sea Lion, what a great board! Without your generosity, I would have missed out on all those waves!

It was fun once we went out. Tom and Zac killed it in the light conditions. I can't believe I snapped my mast being a kook in the shore break but **** happens.

bummer the wind didn't pick up more.. swell would have been super fun.
We drove to sandy pt in the arvo and had a sick sail, i was maxxed on my 4.2! Not much swell at all though..

Up in front of the inlet was good fun waist high waves, but down at the surf club (where we would have had to run a comp if we went to Sandy Pt it wasn't even breaking there)

Thanks everyone for coming down. Unfortunately the wind didn't get up enough to run a comp. There was some great fun little waves coming through and just another 5 knots and we could have had a great fun session.

Some guys still got out there on some bigger wave gear and got some great waves in the light conditions

Jodie from Whitecaps got a few shots of the freesailing session in the arvo and will post them here soon

Have a good Xmas everybody and I hope Santa brings you all some wind & swell
See you all on the water in the 2012

A shame they didnt run it, had they waited a little longer when the wind picked up a tiny bit more it was heaps of fun. One of the best sails I've had in ages
