Tick!

Sailing the gap at Sandy Point yesterday morning and though I saw a funny looking seal just behind the break, went for a closer look and it was a bronze colored SHARK!! A bit shorter than my 76L Evo (guessing 1.5m), it was just below the surface cruising towards Waratah Bay. Guessing it was a Bronze Whaler. Knew it was time to leave it alone when it turned around and started following me, wouldn't you know it, dropped my next gybe.

Andy and Chris Ackland witnessed the beasty and survived to tell as well. Unfortunately no GoPro on hand but eerie to know that they cruise the surf break at Sandy..... Will be a bit more edgy surfing last light from now I think.

Didn't stop sailing, powered up on the 3.7m but waves were tiny.

I seem to recall you scooping up a whiting at Green point a few years back while we were sailing, wasn't tempted on this fish

as a windsurfer I like to think there are no sharks at Sandy Pt..
Unfortunately as a fisherman I know that Sandy Pt is one of THE sharkiest places I ever go!!

Can't be as sharky as places along this coastline with seal colonies though????

I need you to agree with me please.

OK well there are different sharks in different areas... Sandy Pt seems to have a huge population of Bronze Whalers... that said though I have seen one white pointer there at Long Arms

A mate of mine flys the shark chopper and I asked him the other day where do you see the most.. he said the south end of Mud island in PPB by far. He reckons he regularly sees 15+ sitting off the back of the island in the shallows!

I certainly see a few fishing though, and I have had quite a few run ins with them windsurfing...

Luckily I was in the boat a few weeks ago when this guy showed up

Been thinking for a while that Mud island could be a potential speed sailing venue. Might strike that one off the list now!!!

Seen a few at Sandy Point one big and one small.
H20 you spent as much time on Saturday looking for your backpack as you did sailing so I am sure most of the blood was in the sand! This coming Saturday might be another chance to sail at Long Arms whilst looking over your shoulder for the Noah's!

Thought I would give this whiting a miss Jman, couldn't fit it in my wetsuit Don't think I would have been as curious if it looked like a White Pointer Joel, might have needed to wash out the wettie if it was.

Was pretty cool to see, still a bit unnerving though.

Joel, I didn't realise that it was one of the SB community that started that scare-mongering on the news! I had a few phone calls about that news report from concerned friends & family, haha. You must've been fishing near us that day, off Cape Nelson? We saw plenty of dolphins but no shark.

The next morning we went for a sup at Cape Bridgewater - saw tuna swimming in the back breakers, but no shark.

Nope they chased us down. Had channel 7, 10 & 9 all wanting to buy exclusive rights of the footage! Channel 7 paid the most... so that's where it ended up!!

Also had the Hearld Sun buy some images too...

That is great footage - love the marbling on the shark from the water. Seen a few around whilst fishing & have a few scratches on my motor & prop to prove it, but never seen one under water...although went for a dive near that spot only a couple of days ago.

Only the first half of the footage I was holding by hand, then it got a bit close so I used a Flymount and put it onto a gaff pole

Love the way they smile, or is it smirk, for the camera. Great footage that I probably don't really want to think about. But thanks for sharing.

I'd be really pissed off if it started chewing on my prop.
