I’m new here in Melbourne, I moved here from Denmark recently, and I can’t wait to get windsurfing again. I need to buy some equipment though, but before I do that, I need to find a place to store it (and some more money). I don’t really have any place to put it at home, so does anyone know any other options? Is there a club maybe I can join, where I can store it, or something else?

There are various "storage places" that you can lease by the month in all different sizes, the benefit of that is you get 24 hour access to your stuff...

just go to http://www.yellowpages.com.au

and enter storage for the business type, and enter your city in the location. It will give you a complete listing of all the storage places near your suburb.

Personally I wouldn't trust my gear at a sailing club, and don't know that you would get 24 hour access to it.

It sounds like you have windsurfed before so you know what kind of gear to purchase that is right for your abilities, in which case the best place to buy is the Seabreeze classifieds.

SHQ will be having there spring swap meet soon I think which is also worth looking at as you can get some good bargains there as well....

If you get some good gear that would suit an intermediate...heavy sailor, you can store it at my place for free! I'll even take your gear out weekly so that it doesn't get cobwebs on it!

Do you have a car?

if not then you'll need to store it near the beach and elwood sailing club has lockers

Other sailing clubs exist and if you can get a trailer or a locked box then you could probably store your gear in situ at those clubs - sandringham, hampton, st kilda etc

Thank you for the replys. I used to be part of a club in Denmark, and I enjoyed being part of a club, so I'm thinking Elwood Sail Club would be a good place for me. Is that a good spot?

I guy welcome in OZ
I've been in OZ for 6 months and for one more year. I come from Belgium and had the same issue than you when I arrived : the need to sail quickly, to buy a quiver and to store it ...
To buy my gear I used seabreeze forum and SHQ shop (large choice of second hand materal) and I could find nearly everything.
To store my gear (and the one of my wife) I became member of Elwood sailing club where you can sail and store gear in secure lockers but it's not free ... check www.elwoodsc.com/blog/
To joint the club you'll need to be introduced by a member, I can do it for you . (colinet.herve@gmail.com)
Elwood is perfect for summer time, side shore seabreeze nearly everyday in avro, some funny waves and jumps. In winter you can catch the northerly at green point just next to Elwood because it's dead off-shore at Elwood club.

Good luck
