Got a bit of a shock yesterday sailing at Elwood just north of the sailing club. Something black caught the corner of my eye and I looked over it was a black seal! Never sailed with seals before and he came near me twice about 100 to 200m from shore.

It was all quite exiting at the time, just wondering if seals are common in Elwood and surrounds. Still hanging out to sail with some dolphoins, any one seen the dolphin pod lately?

I had two dolphins swim along beside me while windsurfing (barely planing) off top end of Elwood/Point Ormond about 3 years ago. I didn't see them at the time but a couple of people came up to me afterwards and told me. Apparently quite a few people stopped and watched - only I was unaware to it all!

I saw a huge flock of gulls all feeding where we were sailing when we came in - think a big migration of bait fish was moving along the bay which might explain why you saw the seal.

dolphin pod down at McRae on Dec 27th. I've seen seals a few times at rickets and once at Green point

There are always two dophins about 300m north of Mornington pier. They'll come say hello if there are no boats around and you're not going too fast. They scared the sh#t out of Tom when I convinced him to come out with me there.

Also occassionally a larger pod off Mt. Martha.
