There was a post here a while ago talking about possible speed strips in and around port Albert. I'm more interested if it's worth bringing the gear down for a sail in the port itself - it always seems windy down there... Is it worth it Or I wonder if it's just a maze of sandbars, bouys and strong currents... Anyone sailed there and has any advice?

Haven't sailed it but very strong currents in and around Snake Island. Lots of juvenile great white's in Corner Inlet too. Sandy's not too far away and you'll probly have a few other sailors out with you

Ginno, I did an exploratory to check out what looked like possible speed strips out from Port Albert, but they look very different on the water compared to Google Earth. Way too much tidal flow. The fishing was good though!
I didn't end up sailing near Port Albert. I was power-boating instead and was more interested in staying in the channels than running aground. I'll have a look at the chart tomorrow, but I think I remember there to be quite a lot of shallow water. That wouldn't necessarily rule it out as sailable, but it might be tide dependent.
I have sailed at Port Welshpool between the boat ramp and the long jetty which was pretty fun in 40kts. I suspect you'd probably get some good runs in at Pt Albert, but if you're coming down from Melbourne, Sandy would be a much better location.

It's a family weekend back home - mrs originally from port Albert way - tradition is to get fish and chips at the port and freeze butt off watching seagulls get blown backwards... Always seems to be windy down there... This time the gear is on the roof of the car - I'll check it out Sunday...

I've just checked the chart. Anything outside the channel is marked as exposed at low tide. You should be fine at high tide. Otherwise you'll have to feel your way. Don't use your best fin!
As I have learned, just because it's wet, doesn't mean it's deep.
