- Registration at the surf beach, opposite the shops, from 10am.

- Gybe Clinic at 11am with Fletcher and Kevin. Carve Gybe Team Challenge to follow.
- The SHQ Melbourne Cup Windsurf Races at 3pm including divisions for Race (sails with cams), Freeride (no-cam sails) and Fun (SUP with a sail). You must be a current and paid up WV member to participate in this event.
- Wavesailing Clinic at 5pm with the world famous Al McLeod - he took at wrong turn off the southwest coast of Tasmania and ended up it some pretty massive waves - and also Hudson.

TUESDAY
- light southerly or possible strong SE depending on which forecast you look at
- No plans so it's a back-up day or just time for free-sailing and demos. Ask the SHQ team if you have any ideas for us all to have even more fun!

See you there for a SUP and WINDSURF Carnival to remember

Awesome schedule!

One question about the races on Monday. Is the reason for being a fully paid member of WV for insurance or is there another reason?

The reason I ask is that there are over 100 fully insured and paid members of the IWC just up the road.

To take part in the Melbourne Cup Race and any other on water competition at the SHQ Sandy Point Melbourne Cup then you must be a paid up member of WV. This is for insurance of the organisers and is a part of our permit conditions. We've tried to work with IWC in the past to get their insurance to extend to us as organisers of this event but so far it's not been possible.

So to compete you must be a WV member. To chat on the beach about gear and technique or to take some gear for a demo you can be a member or not a member of whatever you like - we're all inclusive and looking forward to a super fun weekend of SUP and Windsurf.

See you there

Thanks. IWC insurance is Australia-wide. WNSW accepts it and I am competing in NSW this summer using my IWC/Yachting Australia -based insurance. WNSE are welcoming me with open arms.

Why can't it work in Vic? Doesn't make sense. It appears to me that you have a choice to accept guests in your event but you are forcing people to sign up to WV.

(BTW I am also a WV member but only for AUS sail number rego - again, because I have no choice)

I really don't understand why you are being such a downer - you whinge about there not being any events and then you whinge when someone tries to put an event on and wants to protect themselves with insurance. Come on mate, really?

I think we've been pretty clear - IWC insurance does not cover us as organisers.

It's irrelevant what other insurance you have or what other structures exist in other states - we've looking into this in detail and right now the only way we can be covered as organisers of this event is if every participant is a WV member.

Anyone and everyone is welcome as long as they know how to enjoy themselves and aren't too caught up in bitter conspiracy theory's to see that we're trying to make this as fun and inclusive as possible.

"Bitter conspiracy theories"? Whinging? Gee that's a bit much isn't it? I didn't realise I had a theory. Why is asking about the apparent lack of windsurfing racing whinging? Your event flyer didn't mention the racing - so I asked. Gee sorry for wondering. Now you've clarified there is racing and that's great - really.

It's not about the money to join WV - it's the principle. I'm trying to understand why Yachting Australia Insurance is not sufficient. YA is the peak sailing body in Australia. Works for the rest of the country in all events in all sailing classes - almost without question. Works overseas too.

I find it hard to believe it can't be made to work for this tiny event.

I haven't read the WV insurance fine print. I'm guilty. Perhaps the problem is the permit conditions you have negotiated or an un-willingness to make provisions for a one-off event, rather than limitations of the insurance.

My point is, having fun and being welcoming is the key. Not giving people any option but to join WV is not inclusive and not welcoming.

NSW windsurfing clubs and just about every other sailing club in the country accept Yachting Australia insurance for their events. WNSW is stoked people from interstate want to participate and they have gone out of their way to reduce the red tape and costs to encourage attendance. They even offered to cover my insurance for one event before they realised I had Yachting Australia insurance. Friendly, welcoming, nice.

Please, take a leaf and see if there is another way.

Hope it's a great weekend for you all. Monday-Tuesday looks great.

Big thanks to the SHQ boys for another great Cup weekend!

Although we didn't get quite the wind we would of liked we still had enough for a couple of big gear blasts in the inlet and some awesome sup surfing conditions after the rain had cleared on Saturday, great to see some learners enjoying the lightish winds over the weekend before the easterly kicked in for Tuesday which saw Long arms and the inlet at its best!!

Oh and Johno has taken his salad making to a new level with a mouth watering feast at the SHQ spit roast!
