Where ya from dude? mentone has alot of nice rigging areas cause of the nice green grass along the beach. You can rigg up next to he life saving clubs at mentone and ricketts. The place works real nice in SW seabreezes. Ricketts is better in SE, E, oR W
I always rig next to the LSC in Mentone. Park on the road next to the grass. There is a wire fence you just put all your gear over. Nice grass and a short walk downhill to the water.
BEWARE OF THE LSC SHE MALE LIFE GUARD!!! I cant remember her name but she jumps into a canoe and chases you!!!
K-Dog you remember her right??? "GET OUT OF MY WATER!!!"
Fair dinkem is that right? a shemale?? i might have to meet her just for a good laugh might take her picture. you have more chance of a shemale attacking you than a shark will pass this info onto me bro and tel him to look out for her too

Welcome to the club. Was surprised that others haven't mentioned the following:
Parkdale: park on the road, just south of the Yacht Club. Can use the stairs at the yacht club or the concrete ramp to get down to the water. Works in S, SW and W. There is a toilet and water tap 50m to the north of the yacht club. The yacht club has wallies and yacht races throughout the year and it's best to keep well clear if a race is on. Talk to some of the others to get an idea of the place, if possible. Strong local contingent.
Rickett's South (at the Life Saving Club). Sounds like you know it. Works best in a SE or NW. Kite City. Parking fees of $3/hr or $12/day, unless you get there early to park on the road near the stairs. Use you fin to find out where the reef is (others do).
Rickett's North (near the Beaumaris Yacht Club). Best in a SW at 25 knots plus, but can be pleasant at less. A gap in the reef has to negotiated to get to sea and 40 cm fins are not encouraged. Wave City in a strong SW'ly, particularly if the tide is coming in. Watch out for Gilligan's Island as you come back through the reef gap, then head up hard toward the Teahouse. If you make it past Gilligan's, you can do a Hero gybe on perfectly flat water in front of the throng. Parking fees as per Rickett's South. Talk to/watch the guys for a time before entering the water. Water and toilets at the south end of the carpark. Flat water inside hides a flat reef, which can become a problem at low tide.
I did not know anything about these spots as i have only sailed at green point twice and got blown off the water over a year ago. So thank you for that.
I am a POM who has sailed for many years, been in Perth WA for a few years, lived the dream but then work / real life caught up with me so moved over to VIC 2 years ago.
Now either SUPing or trying to get one of my many starboards out of the garage.
Next time there is a blow look out for a chunky looking Yorkshireman on a starboard and an Ezzy sail. Please say good day...
"My current biggest set up is a 111 ltr board and a 6.2 sail. I am just the wrong side of 90kgs.
Do i need to go bigger for the bay??"
Depends at what wind strength you want to sail in. In summer, we hope to get an afternoon SW sea breeze (good name for a forum!), but it seems to vary in strength from site to site (getting stronger as you head toward the City). Most people run up to 7.5m to sail in about 12 - 14 kts. There's a swap meet at Sailboard Headquarters this weekend, where you can have a look at some gear (our other shop is Repeat Performance Sailboards, in Elwood, who is the only outlet for Starboard).
For info, as you may not have all of the beach references and using a Melways road map:
Parkdale, map 87, B 10, cross street, Monarco St
Mentone: map 86 K8, cross St, Naples Road
Rickett's South, map 86 C9. Enter from carpark to south of the Teahouse cafe. Follow dirt road to Life Saving Club.
Rickett's South, on road parking, cross street Rennison St.
Rickett's North, map 86 C9, Enter from carpark to north of the Teahouse cafe.
You might have to head toward the City to pick up the sea breeze. Try:
Hampton: just to north of the Life Saving Club, map 76 E 6, park on Beach Road. Look for the sculpture "The Lying Lady" and the bollards on the grass near the road.
Green Point: best not to sail here in a SW'ly (shore break is fearsome).
Dendy Street, map 76 C1, cross street, Norwood Avenue. Take gear from car and rig up on the grass in front of the toilets.
Best if you spend some time scouting out each of these sites beforehand.
Parkdale, Mentone, Rickett's North, Hampton and Dendy St look like goers for Saturday. Hope you have a FSW or wave board.
Hi Northern Monkey, In the arvo seabreezes, Gnotuk Ave at Aspendale and Bonbeach are also worth a look. Bonbeach has a grass rigging area, whereas Gnotuk is a little bit dodgy.... See you out there, mick
