Elwood Sailing Club in association with Windsurfing Victoria and RPS the Boardstore present the annual One Hour Race at Elwood Sailing Club.

If we get breeze this will be a windsurfing race. If we get no breeze this will be a SUP Race.

Breeze or no breeze we can promise a delicious barbeque and salads and the best waterfront bar on Port Phillip Bay with music and a general great get-together.

Registration starts at 2pm - Briefing 3.30pm - Race 4pm - Barbeque 5pm - Bar Open from 1pm till 9pm (we may get a license until midnight and be able to kick on!!!)

Note from Organiser:

Don't think people realise that the Barbeque/Social side of these events stands up pretty well on it's own in any weather. Regardless of the on-water activities the Food and Venue at the last 2 events have been thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Please feel free to come down with friends, partners, kids and take part.

Cheers, Jon

From Elwood Sailing Club (Elwood beach).
Length will be based on weather conditions and the race director. In the past it has been less than k or or just over. The outer marker should be seen from the beach/club and with the safety boat near by. This will all be known before the race briefing and cover in detail during the breifing.

Quite an interesting race from a spectators point of view also. Watched one from the pier a few years back and really enjoyed it.

I guess they would run the race in direction of the Brighton marina? (With fingers crossed that everyone can get back to shore!)

Is it going to be an issue for begin/(early) intermediates joining in this race?

Or can we provide some entertainment and obstacles to dodge in the race?

This race is suitable for most levels, everyone is welcome to join in. Come and have chat with myself if you have any questions on the day. We could possible highlight who is a newbie with a cross on the sail. We are thinking of using electrical tape with the entry number on every ones sail. May be a cross could indicate newbie's.

We could make the cross a big N instead.

Nah Cross is fine, but not hot on the idea of tape on the sail. Wouldn't the glue residue make it a pain to clean off? Also what impact would the tape have on the way the sail performs?

Is there a handicap process for less experienced riders?

Citrus cleaner gets rid of glue, but electrical tap does not leave much glue and comes off real easy.
The idea of the tape was for sailor identification to record the number of laps, epically for the leaders.

Thanks to the crew from ESC, RPS and WV for putting on another great event. Plus a special thanks for all that came down and their families. We had plenty of positive feedback from the people on the beach, wanting to know more about our great sport and for the fun event we put on.
Photos of the event will be WV facebook page early this week.
See you at the next one.
