Looking at heading out on Sunday.
Can anyone suggest flatish water on Port Phillip or Western Port bay that would work with Sunday's northerly

Williamstown is the only place I have sailed in a northerly (in Melbourne that is). I will be sailing off either Pt Henry or Pt Richards on Sunday I think. Unfortunately a northerly is not ideal for either of these spots but as long as I can get out I dont care.

Just curious, why is a Northerly not the best for those locations OB64? Cheers!

I will be going to Green Point I think it is classified as Hampton, flatish water and usually stronger than the south end of the bay, thier are a few rocks but easy to see and avoid, great grass rigging area. Its a popular spot with the forcast of 30knots and 28c their couild be 25 guys out so get thier early. The wind starts happening about 10 am as a rule on a northerly. Bring some coins as it is $9 to park for the day or you can unload and park for free on beach R .

Its not so much the wind direction as that the rolly waves that come in with it.

Its suppose its more a case of not being as suitable for me and my level of sailing as I am still not fully confident with deeper water starts. Plus I like sailing fast and bigger waves tend to make things a little more difficult. Who knows, maybe I will just rig a smaller sail and try a bit of bump and jump lol.

Found Bonbeach - love google maps. Will be down there...
Anyone know if there;s anything to avoid down there? Or is it just all plain sailing....?

Turn down the street opposite the bonbeach station Williams or williamson Street and the windsurfers use the north end of carpark, wind is not usually as strong as GP may need the next size sail up. No reef.

Reef Island in Western Port offers Sandy point like flat water. A bit holey at the start but very quick in the middle. On port tack though and mid tide is best as the course has a few rocks in it. Needs a good strong NW to work.

Was a good day down this end of the bay too. A little choppy but I managed to run some good speeds. Even managed a few little jumps. Shame I didnt mean to do them at the time lol.

ejmack and I , wives and dog went to Rye. Definitely the wrong call - Wind only hit 10 kts and water was lumpy. Glad you guys got some decent wind at Bonbeach. Next time share it around and dont keep it all for yourself!!

Jman,
It was my first time sailing at Bonbeach yesterday -- following your advice above. It was so great;
- beach was beautiful and water color was fantastic,
- wind was great and weather was warm
- friendly windsurfers!!
I am very impressed. Had a perfect season openning. Loved it!!
Thanks for your location advice. Please keep posting every Friday because it is very useful for people who are new to Melbourne/VIC like me

Im glad you had a good day, I was impressed with your ablity, you were holding down a 5.0 sail correct? on a biggish board and you dont wiegh much, most of us were on 5.7 and wave boards and we are around 80kl looks like you have natural ability.
