HI THERE !!!

I AM STILL IN GREECE AND THE POSSIBLE MOVE TO RESERVOIR IN MELBOURNE IS 80\100 ! AFTER I GET ALL SORTED, I AM WONDERING WHERE AM I GOING TO PRACTICE WINDSURFING !!! I DO FREE RIDING AND SOME WAVESAILING (WORKING ON MY FORWARDS AND BACKLOOPS) AND I CAN HANDLE WINDS FROM 4 TO 7 BOFOR. I AM 76KG. AND CURAINTLY USE 120LT. , 100LT AND 76LT. FREESTYLE-WAVE BOARDS AND MY SAILS ARE WAVE SAILS 4.2, 5.0, 5,7. CONDITIONS AT GREECE ARE FLAT TO CHOPPY TO HARD CHOP AND SOME AGRESSIVE SWELL WITH A SMALL GAP BETWEEN WAVES WICH MAKES THINGS HARD WHEN YOU WANT TO JIBE ! ALL MY SPTS ARE FROM 30 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR DRIVE. SO , MY QUESTIONS ARE :1-ANY SPOTS OR WINDSURF CLUBS CLOSE TO RESERVOIR AND WHAT ARE THE USUAL SWELL AND WIND CONDITIONS ?
2-SHARKS AND SHARK ATTACKS ?
3-IS IT WORTH BRINGING MY STAFF(2009-2010 KIT) THERE OR SELL THEM ALL AND BUY OTHER THERE ?
4-ANYONE KNOWS HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO BRING ALL THAT THERE ?
5-HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE SURFING SPOTS AND HOW CLOSE YOU PARK TO THE BEACH ?
...I KNOW, I KNOW !!! I ASK A LOT !!!
MANY THANKS TO WHO EVER REPLYES IN ADVANCE !!!

Good morning,

1-ANY SPOTS OR WINDSURF CLUBS CLOSE TO RESERVOIR AND WHAT ARE THE USUAL SWELL AND WIND CONDITIONS ? Ans: Nothing is close. Reservoir is to the North of Melbourne, whilst our beaches are to the West and South of Melbourne.

2-SHARKS AND SHARK ATTACKS ? Ans: Over-hyped. Yes there are sharks, but bitten people are few and far between. Ignore.

3-IS IT WORTH BRINGING MY STAFF(2009-2010 KIT) THERE OR SELL THEM ALL AND BUY OTHER THERE? Ans: Cannot comment.

4-ANYONE KNOWS HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO BRING ALL THAT THERE? Ans: Don't know.

I may be able to provide deatils of sailing spots later, this weekend (at work at the moment).

Hope this helps.

5-HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE SURFING SPOTS AND HOW CLOSE YOU PARK TO THE BEACH? Reservoir to Middle Park, St. Kilda, would be about a 45-minute drive. In this spot, you rig up on the footpath or the beach and you walk for one minute to the water's edge. Most of our sailing locations are very close to the beach.

Hi Windmaster76,

You find plenty of guidance and support from the local sailors. Also check out Windsurfing Victoria's website for help on most of your questions.

I too am at work at the moment and have limited access to provide a complete response. You can however get me on president@wv.org.au

Kali Mera Windmaster76,

Agree with all the other comments, some additional ideas:
1-ANY SPOTS OR WINDSURF CLUBS CLOSE TO RESERVOIR AND WHAT ARE THE USUAL SWELL AND WIND CONDITIONS ? As said the bay is to the south of Melbourne, we have spots that you can sail with all directions, most people have to drive to the beach anyway. Predominantely SW seabreazes in summer around 20knts, occasional W or E and on some hot summer days strong N up to 30 knts. Winter mostly northerly directions. It depends where you go, add 30 minutes for some spots. We have windwaves in the bay similar to the mediterranian sea. I have sailed in Vasiliki, that was fun, the ocean (another 1.5 hrs drive) provides plenty of swell, but the waves can be massive, some good spots for easterlies and also possibly the best speedsailing strip in the world "Sandy Point' two hours south east from Melbourne.
2-SHARKS AND SHARK ATTACKS ? Don't fall in...seriously I haven't heard of attacks to windsurfers, but sharks are there, especially in the ocean. More likely to be bitten by snakes and spiders.
3-IS IT WORTH BRINGING MY STAFF(2009-2010 KIT) THERE OR SELL THEM ALL AND BUY OTHER THERE ? Depends how much you have and love it, and how long are you going to stay (ie permanently?). I brought a 20ft container over for $6000 with all my household 15 years ago, there could be shared arrangements, would check with a shipping company, don't forget insurance and likely it would have to go through fumigation.
4-ANYONE KNOWS HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO BRING ALL THAT THERE ? See above, it took 6 weeks for my container to arrive. I can imagine you can ship it all over for a few hundred dollars.
5-HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE SURFING SPOTS AND HOW CLOSE YOU PARK TO THE BEACH ? see above 1
...I KNOW, I KNOW !!! I ASK A LOT !!!
MANY THANKS TO WHO EVER REPLYES IN ADVANCE !!!
Also check out TheWindmap thewindmap.com/#-38.94232097947902,144.47021484375,7 there's some info about sailing spots around Melbourne.

Cheers

JAK
