My name's Dave. I am new to Victoria. I have been windsurfing in France since early/mid 90's and took a long break from it since 2004. Seeing people bump & jump in the bay made me want to restart. I already purchased a second hand board, a Starboard S-type 104 that I think should be nice for bump and jump. However, I am not sure what type of sails I want to put on it or which size.

Do you think a 6.0, no-cam freeride sail is too big for the wind conditions in the bay? I am 70-75 kg, and do waterstart and gybes.

6m would be fine. Probably even get away with 6.5 and even a 7 on a 104. I use a 7.5 on my 105 slalom.

Weighing as little as you do (I weigh 85 kilos), 6 should get you going nice.

Hi and welcome mate, I don't think a 6.0 is too big at all for your weight. During our season we get sea breezes around the 10-20 knot range so the 6.0 would see you on the water alot of the time. Take a look at these web sites to get some useful info and spots to sail.

Also let us know which city you are moving to in Vic so we can recommend some spots close to you.

I have found a really great place in Glen Waverly. Not too far from the bay, and a nice view of the Dandenong range. Love it. I will first get back in the water somewhere on the east side of the bay. But I'd love to check Gippsland as well.

-37.88637,144.981251 - mainly in summer - Elwood crew

-37.926656,144.986336 - good in northerlies

-37.990464,145.027878 - ricketts point - quite popular

-38.062926,145.116735 - Bonbeach and also Carrum - gets surprising swell size for the bay - so popular bump and jump spot.

The others are spot on about Vic and a 6m on the bay.

I use to have S-Type 104. It was one of best boards ever. I use to use a 5.7m, 6.2m and 6.7m camless sails on it. The 6.2m was the most suited for this board and the bay.

Being on the east side of the city makes it easy to jump on the freeway and drive the 1 1/2 hrs to Inverloch or Sandy Point to enjoy some flat water
