Drift has emerged from the pack and taken the lead with a stunning ratio of 1.7883 set on Sunday.Allison must have inspired the lad to grit his teath and go for it.Imagine what he could have got if we sailed when the wind came in. Well done. Who,s next

So where is the speech from the man resplendant about how the puice coloured boom gave him the extra advantage over us retardant sailors using black booms. Is he showing us his humilaty at being top of the table

Old salty, you yourself would know its a hard task to be a leader amongst men and women.
Whilst some people go for the fireworks and streamers, I am much more reserved and shy....

But really, I am doing it for the kids, if I can inspire one kid to pick up a yellow sail with a lilac coloured boom and race down the Inverloch speed strip, then my life's mission is complete!

Mick, with respect, for somebody whose preferred 'look' on the water makes many of us wonder whether you enjoyed a previous career as a camp popstar, I think you can hardly lay claim to being either reserved or shy. The lilac and pink boom merely adds weight to the theory:

He gonna have to do a music vid called Mick Music

I'll give this speed challenge a go, dunno how a 5.5m sail on a 165 ltr board will go though

Hi Echunda,
You can already see the amount of insulting and degrading comments I have to endure from my so called sailing buddies. I suspect that they are secretly jealous of my boom colour. It's a bit like the Cabbage Patch Dolls...just coz I happen to have the prettiest colour, the claws come out! I know Crowie has a penchant for light blue- I have seen him fall off his board just to immerse himself in the blue of the Inlet. And as for Old Salty, he likes yellow so much he likes to sail 5 k's down the Inlet, just to walk back on the yellow sand.

Still to be part of the speed challenge I'd suggest maybe a lime green or perhaps apricot boom...that'll at least get you started.

Hi Echunda

I have got 26 kts on a 144 ltr barge so you can certainly get the feel for it on your equipment

What about a new challenge? Result = Litres x knots

Hi Ginger,
What an interesting idea!
The only thing I wonder about is the ratio of board volume is going to be hugely greater than the variance in speed. therefore the way to kick butt in such a challenge would be to go for the highest volume possible (Kato's a shoe in with his One Design if he doesn't keep snapping the fin of it!)

What would be really interesting would be board volume X peak speed DIVIDED by peak wind speed.

A good idea but then do we complicate it too much.
I can see people then wanting sail size, body weight, competency, age(that's my benefit)KISS

117L x 42.98 / 45 = 111.75

83L x 45.8 / 40 = 95

64L x 50 / 50 = 64

Yeh that last one is a bit ordinary
