Burrumbeet is 2,400 hectare lake that sits just North west of Ballarat and is just 130 km to Melbourn CBD with dual freeway right to the lake. Burrumbeet sits at an elivation of 435 mts above sea level so it really can catch the SW ands Northerlys. The lake is about 6.6km long and 4.4 wide, covers about 24km2. Its been dry for around 8 years but now with the excellent rain is about 90% full with an average depth of 1.8mt its a perfect spot for some speed sailing or teaching someone not confident in the sea.
You can park at the waters edge and rig up on the grass making it very easy to sail. I mostly sail form the old ski club on the South east shore. If you google the lake for directions the map pic was taken when the lake was empty. I
t would be great to sea other sailer rather than just me and my dog.
