The Inverloch Windsurfing Club are proud to announce that the silly buggers at SHQ, NP and JP Australia have given us a trailer of gear to play with.

The trailer IS BIGGER THAN THE HUR Brothers and is stacked full of great new gear to trial. Heaps of Beginners gear, intermediate, advanced, wave, freestyle, light wind and SUP

IWC and SHQ will be providing a "Come and Try Day" on Saturday and Sunday out the front of the Angling Club between 10am - 4pm for all to bring their friends and family along to give this sport ago. Expert instruction for beginners will be provided along with tips for all.

BBQ will be going both days so come along and join in the usual fun the Inverloch Crew have.

Is it true that as part of the festivities, Crowie will be conducting walking tours of the pier and surroundings as well as any other obstacles he has hit around the Inlet?
I hope so, although we might need the whole two days to fit in all of the locations...!

Walking tours cost $10 each. You will be required to show me a certificate verifying that your board is insured against pier damage. Don't blame me - speak to Parks Vic. Sorry, no children - too many fisho hooks and profane invective will be hurled at the landing party. Cheques payable to Doug unfortunately, I'll be the token drowned Pom at the Pier to Pub in Lorne (bloody pier again!!)

Weather forecasting cannot be trusted at the moment. Leave the call until as late as possible but my guess is Sunday

On a SE the entrance works real well. Drift did say te eother day they have found another new spot within the inlet that works well on SE.

Mahers does work well on a S, SE, E and W. I was down there the other day in 12 - 16 kts posting 22 kts on the gps. The only problem is playing dodge the fishing boat this time of year and at times the water can get a little murky which is not good when you are running the sandbank
With the shifting sandbars Inverloch is a moving feast at the moment. Out front of the Angling Club works well on a SW/WSW but the run is getting extremely short on low tide. Drift has been doing some expeditions within the Inlet and discovering new spots. We have got Treadwells, Gilligans and quite a few other names lined up apart from Area 45

You can run the outer bank towards the entrance on a SE but I'd suggest a slack to incoming tide as the tide races through the channel near the boat ramp. You can run in close to bank but watch out for the shoal directly opposite the boat ramp

If you want an adventure, there is a bank 2.6 k's east of the Angling Club and which is set up for SE. It'd be a a slog, unless you went for a point to point (eg you launched at Mahers and downwinded to the bank and then headed down to the Angling Club). You'd need to scam a lift off someone once you got there.
You'd also want a slack/ outgoing tide and would definately want to be out of there once the tide turned

Saturday was great, nice and warm with a slight breeze for the beginners to have go. In total for the weekend we have about 80 lessons booked. The change came late in the afternoon. If you missed yesterday come down today.

A big thanks to Doug, Megs, George and SHQ for a great 2 days of fun. I,m a happy and stuffed Kato. The wind was perfect and with the last lession ending the wind kicked in and provided us trainers with a chance to go for a blast. Lots and lots of happy people going home tonight thinking of windsurfing for the first time. Lets do it again

Yep, ditto - huge thanks to Doug, Megs and George and SHQ for organising and supporting this superb event!! It was very rewarding to see so many newbies with huge smiles on their faces having a thrill getting a windsurfer going for the first time - and so many other learners making good progress.

When I got back into windsurfing in 2007 after a 23 year break, although the gear was unrecognisable and infinitely better, it was a bit sad to see that the sport seemed to have shrunk so much and mainly involved just a few middle aged blokes, without much regeneration by younger people. I am sure that these sort of events will go a long way to revitalising our wonderful sport.

Well done all and I hope it will be possible to have two or three of these each summer.

Megs and I just got back from a busy, but FANTASIC weekend. We're both knackered but we would like to personally thank Simon (NP), Luke and Tao from SHQ, all the instructors and volenteers that made this weekend happend an of course Doug from IWC.

Freakn awesome, THIS is the reason we started windsurfing. The whole weekend had a great vibe and the windsurf community really shone out.

Like I said I'm too stuffed to do a decent report, but here's a couple of pics for you.

Just a quick note: Josh (Flip) you are nuts!!!!

Event report from the water rescue person:
Like I said earlier, this weekend was amazing. We had great weather, perfect beginner wind, heaps and heaps of people (I’ve never, ever seen the car park so full and spilling onto the street, down the road and onto the next street!

I spent all my time on the water, either giving learners some instruction on the ski (look forward, not at your feet!) , retrieving learners and rigs when the current took them too far, rounding up people when we were close to the end of the session, taking photos and getting some great video footage chasing the fast guys down.

All of the beginners seemed to have a great time. There were so many smiles! Even when they were knackered from up hauling and outside the boundary, they were still determined to keep going and make to back to the starting area.

The rescues were more common on the Saturdays’ incoming tide. With a 5 knot current, people were drifting faster than they could up haul. Lucky that if they went too far, a sandbank would catch them and they could do their first walk of shame.

There were a few standout moments for me:

Josh (Flip) instructing the kids. I have no idea how he manages to stand on one side of the board, with the kid sailing on the other side, or having two kids on two boards and sailing both! One of the best instructors I’ve seen
He’s ‘skurfing’ with the SUP or the surfboard was unreal!
Looks like he’s a bit of a ladies man, so lock up your girlfriends!

Chasing Luke (SHQ), Tao (SHQ) and Simon (Neil Pryde) on the jet ski filming was awesome fun. These guys were flying and having a ball chasing each other. It was a bit crazy having a jet ski in the middle of wind surfers and kiters, but everyone else could see what we were doing and gave us plenty of room to do our thing.

I was also stunned on how much boaters hate jet ski’s. One bloke came over and gave me an earful before I even had the ski off the trailer! Jet skiers have a real bad rep on the water. I hope windsurfers never get that.

My Bravo list:
Old Salty (IWC president) – The perfect host
Megs (my girlfriend) – The ‘engine’ of the event. Registrations and general coordination
Simon (Neil Pryde) – An awesome dude, great sailor and the guy who had the responsibility of the trailer.
Luke (SHQ) – Who allowed IWC to run this event as well as offering his time to help out and another awesome sailor
Rob (IWC Volunteer) – Helping out wherever he could and photographer
Ian (IWC Volunteer) – BBQ duties and helper with the jet ski
Cara (IWC Volunteer) – BBQ duties and registrations
All the instructors and other volunteers who made the event possible

And lastly my BIG thanks has to go to Inverloch Marine for the use of the ski. Without their assistance, this event would have been very difficult.

Well done people, an amazing club, an amazing event. Whoever didn’t come, you missed out big time!

Well this was a huge event and with any event of this size a lot of people gave up huge slabs of time so I would like to use this forum to personally thank them. The unofficial figures are 90 beginners with 1/2 hr - 1 hour lesson and 50 users of demo equipment

BIG THANKS GO TO(please forgive me if I forget anyone)

Behind the scenes
George, Megs, Ian, Cara, Dorina

Safety Boat Operater
George

Media
Mick, Rob, George

Coaches
Luke, Josh(King of the Kids), Tao, Colin, Dan, Stephen, Craig, Peter, Simon

Organisations
Inverloch Marine for the use of the Jet Ski for 2 days
Windsurfing Victoria - funding and coach
Elgas - Shade tent
Cadbury Schwepes - fund raising Drinks
Bass Coast Council
Gippsland Ports
SHQ - insurance, coaching staff and extra boards
NP and JP masses of equipment

This event would not have happened without the initative of JP and NP who put together a massive trailer of new demo gear at huge cost. Simon and team should be congratulated. Part of Simon's reward was getting the best run of the day on Saturday filmed by George on the jet ski. Hope to post this soon.

This event would not have happened without the support of SHQ. Thanks go Mike, Luke and Paul for all their work.

This event would not have happened without the awesome group of Inverloch Windsurfing Club. Go forth and multiply

And to finish this post off I received an email from a club member that summed the weekend up and I have included an extract below

"Just a quick acknowledgement of the terrific weekend the club and SHQ put
on in Inverloch over the past 2 days. Extremely well run and lots of fun.
Thanks again for the effort, it's wonderful to see windsurfing getting
back on the front foot.
My son Harry had an absolute blast and on going to bed last night said it
was one of the "best days of his life"! It was so refreshing for him to be
taught by someone else other than "just dad""

Well done guys. I was down on Sunday and thought you all ran a well organized operation.

The sample boards were great to try, snags sorted out the hunger, and plenty of experienced people to give advice.

Some feedback from my mate who came to try windsurfing out - he said the instructors were excellent and very generous with their time.

Good job all!
