Inverloch Windsurfing Club's first of many free clinics. Sunday 23rd October 9am Angling Club car park Anderson Inlet Inverloch(1.5 hours drive from Melbourne).
A great day is planned that is open for all beginners to come down and be instructed in the fine arts of Stance, Beach Starts, Tacks and Low Wind Gybes.
Whilst your own equipment is necessary the boys from RPS are bringing down the 2012 Naish gear for wind, kite and SUP for all to drool over They will have some beginners gear so if you have a mate that you want to introduce to this addictive sport of ours they are more than welcome. Please make sure they have a type 2 PFD with them to wear on the water at all times.
A BBQ will be on the go and there will be plenty of entertainment as I hear that Wooz is planning to rain Karma on Drift's head in pay back for what happened at the Longboard weekend.

Me being a seasoned beginner won't be able to make it for this event.

I hope you all have a great time down there.

Can't wait for Sunday!

Nothing better than a day down at the beach, rolling out some new gear, chatting to the crew, doing a few runs and helping out a few beginners.

Apparently in the reprint of "101 Freestyle Windsurfing Tricks", there's a synchronised pairs move called " Dodgems" and Drift is happy to attempt this one with me. I've been solo training this one for weeks now and my speed and impact on collision is working well!

Here's a newbie question,.. is a type 2 PFD (is it a personal floating device),..??

Where could i get one before the weekend,..?

If the extent of impact is directly related to momentum and mass...you're in deep trouble, Wooz!

Hi Bigezy.

Yep a type 2 pfd is a personal flotation device. I am sure if you ring Wooz at RPS The Boardstore he may have a loaner for Sunday. However you do need to consider purchasing one for the long run. There are lots of different designs around but I would stick to the Windsurfing stores to ensure that you get one that is specific to our sport

Hi Bigezy,
I've got a couple of spare PFDs I'll bring down just in case you can't get hold of one

From my experience..its a perfect time to "accidently" buy another board/rig whilst "just going down to buy a small item".!!!

NP make a very good windsurf specific PFD. Has a little bit for the harness hook to poke through and does't ride up due to a little strap along the bottom. I'm sure there are other brands that make something similar. If your going to be wearing one for the long term investing in a good one is worthwhile in my opinion. I use mine in the middle of winter as it also keeps me warm.

Ok Drift, I may have to rethink the the speed, momentum and impact issue.
Sumo suits, pfd's and helmets might be mandatory!
And perhaps a 10 knot windspeed maximum.

Green Light Green Light

The Event is definitely ON!

Weather forecast is holding great for Sunday with 5 - 15 kt NW. This means short runs to the sand spit in the middle of the Inlet which is ideal for beginners.
For those of you that have not been to Inverloch before we meet at the Angling Club Car Park which is at the end of The Esplanade near Cuttriss St. Google maps shows it clearly.
Looking forward to a great time and catching up with all the beginners again as well as sniffing around some cool new Naish Gear. Just love their logo

Yep totally agree.....it is totally cool that there's enough enthusiastic and keen sailors in Vicco to support 2 events in different locations (catering to different disciplines of the sport.....)

Both Inverloch Windsurfing Club and Windsurfing Victoria are focused on developing the sport. Both organisations are focusing in different ways to do this but I only see this as a very healthy situation for all Windsurfers in Victoria. It would be great to see active Clubs in Ballarat, Geelong, Warrnambool, Torquay, Sandy Point and Lakes Entrance all doing the same.
Stepping down off my soap box, its going to be a great day having fun with newbs and drooling over some gear. Warwick, have you got the semi trailer sorted out to bring the K-15 down. man that is one long beast!!

@IWC Members...

I know it's short notice - but just a question...

Will there be any kids rigs there ?... not for really small tackers, but if possible would like for my boys to jump on a board... they are 11 and 13, and certainly not short for their age !

Cheers

Hi Fireman. I am sure we will be able to set them up with something. They will probably have to share it around

Greatly appreciate that Old Salty ! Happy for them to use my board if needed (JP 160L), but the rig at 5.5 I think would be too big for them.

I'm sure they will be happy to get even 5 minutes each ! It will make their weekend.

Catch you Sunday.

Fireman Sam....

You do know there is some ok water down this way as well....??? Apparently down Geelong way there's some good windsurfing... But its soooo far to travel! Funny how people will travel 1.5 hours to get to Invy but wont travel 1 hour down our way... Apart from some desperate Inverloch Boys (you all know who you are!)

Thanks IWC for organising this beginners day.

Just commenting on helping to develop the sport, I wanted to add that over the past 2 years I've been attempting to educate people from both kiting and supping to have a crack at windsurfing. Lo and behold, a few of them have incorporated it into their watersports portfolio.

As I have a few members from Sup Vic coming down on Sunday, please feel free to continue spreading the word. It may come across even better from yourselves.

Salty, if the wind is 0 - 10 knots, I guarantee that no-one will touch you on the K15! So, personally, I only want 5 knots.
