Maybe there should be a poll function for a post like this :P

How little wind would you sail in? (Knots pls)

Sitting in an office all week - as long as the wind moves me... I'm good for it.

If needed, serious dosage of beans sailing with back to sail....

4knots- If i have some Flat Water to muck around on
10knots- If im stuck in Choppy/Wave conditions

Learn this stuff, keeps you entertained with no wind, and applys naturally to stronger wind tricks

Yeah that guy is pretty amazing.

In the summer I enjoy cruising on my big gear in 10knots. While during winter I really need 18knots for my small gear so I can stay warm enough from the effort, since I choose my wetsuit based on how much heat I generate when decently powered up. Anything less and I can't enjoy myself through the shivering.

I go out in 18 knots...

but I agree that snobbery does nothing for rig handling skills

Yeah, it is just a bit over the top
Half the stuff on that video wont be relevent to any strongwind move.
But lightwind practice did give me the rig handling skills for duck gybes, helitacks, and hopefully soon flakas.

I windsurf in light wind with a 6.6 cam sail, and need at least 15 knots, it's not worth going out in any less, unless you have a 7.5 or 8m sail..

Around 12-13 kts with a 7.0 cammed and 120 l board is still do-able and pretty good fun. When time on water can be hard to find you gotta make the most of whatever conditions are there sometimes.

1 - 13 knots I go out on my old Tyronsea 330 (only in summer when its hot, sunny and board shorts only weather) and muck around on it. Good for practising Heli's, upwind 360's, push tacks, pirouette gybes, front to back, switch stance sailing, etc etc. And its more fun than just going to the beach for a swim.

I went out sunday arvo on my Go 175 in boardies and a rashy. Lucky to be 5 knots of wind but sure beats sitting on the couch watching TV. Amazing how good beer tastes when your washing down your gear (tank water) with hypothermia !

What's Poor Reli doing in the Vic windsurf forum?

Realised it's K Dog's new avatar.

PS - 10knots with my 8.8 and iS122 although it is hard work (being 90kgs and all)

about 5kts

with the 7.5 and the 152 still getting some basics like tacks etc so the light wind lets me take my time.

Also when you start doing it with the 4.5 or 5 sails they feel so light and quick
Train hard fight easy sorta thingy

If I can't get planing I am really not much into it - too boring, and I'm really not into all that flicky tricky freestyle stuff. If I'm near the water and it's not too cold and there's not enough wind for planing then I'd rather go for a surf, even if the surf was crap. But if I can get planing then I'm happy as a pig in s... , even on the coldest mid winter day!
