I am thinking about heading down to hood river, Hazelwood pond this weekend. I have only sailed there in swestlys.. Does any one know if the place works in NWestlys?? Do you still get swell on the lake or is it flat?? I like abit of bump and jump type of conditions..

Looks like a windy weekend, going by the forecast, but also looks like it will be raining as well.. so I was thinking about heading to the pond, so I can sail in warm water

I have sailed Hazelwood once during Winter. The water is warm when you hit it but once you are up and in the wind you get extremely cold. Sort of like jumping from a sauna to a plunge pool
The wind goes not get as swirlly as Lysterfield as most of the surrounding country side is not forrested.

Sailing inland is always an interesting experience.

A few of the crew who sail Hazelwood in S/W winds head to Blue Rock Lake in a N/NW. Good parking and rigging area and no nasty tang in the after-taste when you hit the drink.

Hazelwood is unreal the closest thing for me to sailing hood river the gorge.. You have a huge area of water to sail on, and cause the area is so large, you get some really huge chop to play with, alot like the bay, but you can sail smoother through the chop cause it's freash water.. And the water is real warm dude..

haven't they recently closed one of the access tracks at the the bottom end of the pondage???

Any preferable wind directions, or their is an access on 360 ?

I have only sailed the place in a SW, so far.. I only go there when it's a freezen cold day, and if it's forecast to be raining all day, with a gale. Also The lake is a fair way to drive as well, and there is nothing out there, where the lake is, just a few shops in town..

Like what RPS said, it really is a amazen feeling, to be sailing on swell so far in land, from the ocean and bay...

I have also heard Blue rock lake is another great place to windsurf as well..
