I'm moving to Hamilton with work. Are there any spots to sail in the region?? Lake Hamilton? Or will the weekend drive to the coast be the only option...

There's no Victorian sailing spots east of Apollo bay at the moment!

you can sail on lake hamilton in some wind directions. it gets blue/green algea from time to time. it would probley be worth your while driving the 50 minitues to portland and have a sail with us. we often have 2-8 people on the water at any time and that number is still building. in the summer i think we will be up to 10-12 sailors on a good day with a few "old timers" coming out of the wood work. we are far from experts but we have a laugh and a good time. anyone is welcome to join us when ever they want.

I sailed at bridgewater around new years and it was good fun. Haven't sailed at Portland before but look forward to it.

Lake Hamilton will be good at moment, with the fresh water flushing through it, but prob not the best spot late in summer. The lake's in a bit of a hollow, so doesn't get the cleanest winds. Weekends on the coast would be the go! I was in Hamilton on Saturday and with the lake being full, it looked pretty good (except for lack of wind!) As SNS said, come an hour south for a sail, if there's wind, there'll always be someone keen. During Norwesters we've been heading to the Pt Fairy Lach for flatwater fun lately, it's also a beautiful town!

I also had a sail at Bridgy on New Years day...my first sesh on 'actual' waves, I would've been the one spending more time in the water than on it! Not that I minded...a bit sluggish after a 5am finish!

SCR there used to be a Sailboard club at Hamilton as I was once a member, I know Bert from there still comes over and sails with us here at Beachport, they used to have events at lake hamilton, lake bolac and lake fyans and bellfield in the Grampiams. Beachport is only 2 and a bit hours away as well.

I've been looking at Hamilton as a potential spot for good sailing. I know sailability use it when blue green alge hasn't closed the lake and it's not far from Warrnambool. I saw this site though, that says we're restricted to even number calander days.

Enforced by local authorities, and they're red-hot on it! Chef went for a sail there a couple of years ago on an 'odd' day, middle of winter, no-one about, no boats on the water, or near the water, wetty on...and was asked to pack up his gear otherwise he'll be faced with a fine!

During warmer months, I could understand it, but most of the year, the lake is used for rowing, and skiing, not much in winter, although I guess...rules are rules!

The lach at Pt fairy is a heaps better option! No-one else uses it, at least on the east end.

Sailhack tells the truth! ranger was very keen i get out as it was the wrong day, wrong day alright 5 deg ,rain,and middle of winter sorta happy 2 go ,bit pi$$ed off though

Better make sure I keep it to even days then. It's a bit rough to enforce it when no-one else is on the lake though.

Port Fairy's heaps closer anyway.
