These have risen to $4 per hour/$14 per day (previously $3 per hour/$12 per day).

Excluding GST, the previous hourly rate of $2.73 might have been raised by say, 10% to cover the cost of living, raising the hourly rate from $2.73 to $3.00, then adding the GST makes the hourly rate $3.30. One has to wonder about the difference between $3.30 and $4.00 and who in Council is getting it.

Should you feel aggrieved by the increase, you should let Council know.....I'm sure they'd agree and lower the rate to something more respectable.

A very unfair system. Over priced and very difficult to pull $14 in correct change out of your wallet or car. It's almost as if they are counting on it, just for the fines. For those like myself who don't live local it would be nice to have the option to buy parking permit stickers from council. Or at the very least the option to get a ticket from the machine at the beach and pay online within a few days. Maybe WV could look into something for windsurfers who don't live local to the bay!

WV cannot control local councils on how they issue parking permits. We did send a message to them last year if there could be any way to get permits for regular beach users and of course no reply.

Elwood parking machines take credit cards. Doesn't Green Point? Always feels less painful to just whip out a credit card rather than parting with $14 of coins (which I never have enough of anyway).

Interesting.... to be honest I havn't noticed a card option at GP but apologise if that is the case. It's still a very steep price however.

"you can buy a year permit from bayside council, it was $160 last time i saw."

Well, when I tried last year, yes and no. Yes if you are a resident in Bayside and can prove it with a driving license or rate notice. No without a license or rate notice.

Surelly it would make good business sense for council to sell these permits to non-baysiders? $14 insane! It is a worrying trend around the bay, it has made me think twice about going to the bay.

Why, because you have a Parking Permit and/or live on the beach? And I'm sure I don't want to get busted for printing fake permits! If windsurfers are put off from parking at these popular windsurfing spots how is that good for the sport? I know I am. Sorry, but I don't see the difference between talks with Parks Vic. about boating zones and talking with councils about fair rates for windsurfers regularly using parking at these beaches! I know that may be a bit extreme but if I don't sail in the bay because I can't afford too then what's the point as far as I'm concerned?

$14 & 1.5 to 2 hours in traffic (there and back) for what could potentially be a 20 minute sail..... it's wearing off I tell you!

Please, come and visit the Yarra Valley Shire - we don't have have parking machines!

And if you don't like the topic, don't browse the thread!

Anyway, enough said.

y sorry i see it now on their website.
I didn't think it was always this way.

Non-residents are unable to purchase Beach parking permits.

There is free parking either along beach road for Dendy St beach, or on Beach Road all along Hampton beach.
Green point and Ricketts: not so much,
but i think you can park at the top of the cliff at Ricketts, maybe on an opposite residential street, and carry your stuff down the stairs.
Green point you might be able to carry it across from Brighton Station carpark.
I've carried my kit a lot further.

Or, park in green point, rig up/drop off gear, then move car to station car park, damned if I am going to give this greedy council 1 cent

Well you could hock yourself to the eyeballs and buy a grossly overpriced property in bayside and get a free sticker!!!
You do realise this policy is all about keeping that Bonno Blaster riff raff away from our superior beaches

hahaha... nice! The northern beaches are appealing - the water is much flatter

We considered the move, for a second. It's probably cheaper just to head to Maui every year for a few good weeks!

Yeah, my apologies if I offended anyone, I get a bit carried away with regards to the parking fee's.

Big difference, one is about safety and the other about greed.

You don't see myself at GP for the same reason, why pay for something that I can get for free elsewhere. The benefits over the beaches is not much. One may have more wind, the other is closer for me and is covered by my local residence. The permits in my area are for a number years and there is allways a extra permit here or there.

The council taking away the option buy a permit is the main pain. From a cost side the permit can cost more per year.

It was interesting to note today that Kingston Council have a $3.00 per hour/$11.00 per day parking fee.
