Where's the best place to park, rig and launch from at Elwood?

Do most people park and rig near the yacht club or further up towards Ormond, or somewhere in between. Not being a local I don't often sail there, but would like to make it more often this season. Just curious on where to park and setup.

Also, what conditions are best. Wind direction, stength etc.

Cheers

I park on beach rd just before p. ormond when i sail at elwood, not great to rig there but its ok and free. I generally go to elwood for a seabreeze forcast ssw and it is usually stronger than the south end of the bay. If launching from here it is best to get upwind towards the yacht club in case the wind drops out so you can stay clear of the rocks at the point. Or pay to park at the yacht club and rig on the nice grass to start with. Great spot Ive had some of my best summer sails there. Also some people sail of head st.
Also lots of nice scenery to look at
Hope this helps.

Right at the moment, there ain't no grass at the Yacht club.... stupid council decided to "reconstruct the foreshore facilities" by reducing the available car spaces, increasing the prices, deciding to do the construction work in peak season, and (eventually) there will be lots of concrete everywhere.

It will probably be ok eventually, but right now, it aint so good.

Your best bet is to do as jman says, park on beach rd, about halfway between the point and the clubs. There is a gap in the shrub which you can walk your gear through. Parking shouldn't be a problem as its not often that crowed unless its not windy.

Alternatively, if you can afford the parking, the point has pretty nice grass to rig on, with lots of parking.

Cheers Mathew & Jman.

Normally I would park at the point but I thought that was "Ormond", not so much Elwood? It is a great little rigging area up on the hill. And a bit of an obstacle course getting through the pedestrain traffic and over the wall in one piece.

Noticed all the construction at the Yacht Club. Have not been tempted to park and rig there since it started. Will try parking on Beach Road and walking through from there next time I go.

So most would sail between the Yacht Club and the Point? Would that mean Elwood is sailable from a NW to SSW direction? SSW being the best?

Last time I sailed at Elwood was for the RPS Stern Chaser, the contruction was happening but it was just a case of walking to the north of the yacht club, still lots of grass. Havn't been since then so maybe things have changed again.

It was free parking on that day because the meters wern't installed in the revamped car park, I bet there working now.

Was there for a little bit today and parked between the Yacht Club and the Point (Beach Road). Much better than I thought, so thanks for the directions guys!
