Anyone know of any good camping on fresh water streams, 3-4 hours from Melbourne... good for fishing, swimming, off the beaten track... not popular.....

Some where with freshwater fishing, drinkable (after boiling etc).... capable of getting in with 2WD......

I knew lots of places in NSW around Sydney, with little or no people around and don't know any down here. PM me if you don't want it on the net :P

Hook a brother up!!!!!!

Over the holidays you're going to find it tough to find anywhere pristene that you can get to be 2WD.

There are plenty of spots up around Licola where you can camp on the Wellington River. If you want some amenities there's a campground on a farm at paradise valley which also has river frontage. Lake Glenmaggie is also nearby if you want a sail although the wind can be tricky.

You could also try the Howqua River -eg Sheepyard Flat (? 2WD) up behind Mansfield, which is closer than Licola.

Or the Campground at the Cathedral Ranges near Buxton on the Maroondah Hwy is probably one of my favorites and only an hour or so from Melb. I am not sure if bookings are required this time of year, it's usually just money in the box when you arrive, but you could check with Parks Victoria. Nice little creek with plenty of shade and some great bushwalks on the Cathedral. It did get burned out a couple of years ago but I guess it's grown back by now.

But the trick this time of year will be finding a secluded spot.

Decided on Sheepyard flats........ apparently shouldn't be a problem camping there with a couple of tents...... look out Redfin and Trout!
