12 Km distance. What are your plans? Advice? Sail size for the projected 15 knot winds....?

Discuss.

Yeah the bouy is just inside the beacon, depending on wind direction

Well I was doing the race, even did some training last night and had the Love Muscle flying, but it unfortunately ended in tears. Big over the front, boom square in the ribs and the Xray just confirmed no 9 and 10 ribs snapped clean through.
Bugger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
especially with a cranking Easterly again tonight and my new RRD FSW turning up on Wednesday.
The only good thing about it is the Morphine tablets!!!!

Damn that sucks! I sprained my rib two weeks ago (read: cartlidge and ribs moving against each other) - no x-ray.... the rib is clicking like a cricket all day - should be okay by Sunday (fingers crossed). Damn, snapped ribs must hurt bad.

What's your ETA back to the water from the Doc?

No danger of that Joel you were too far behind me

Good luck everybody for the Race next week and if you are procrastinating, don't, just do it, great fun. Lets hope the weather co-operates and I will certainly be down there watching.
If anybody wants some Koncepts for the Race give me a yell, happy for somebody to use them.

Right now it looks like 9 kts of wind at race time.

The guy that brings the formula gear and a 13m sail will win.

Will be taken into consideration. Are you going to rig up for the race sideshow flip?

If there is no wind I wonder if we'll be pumping sails for 12km.........

Become a member of Windsurfing Vic and you will receive an email every two weeks, indicating all the coming events.

Or you can just go the the website wv.org.au.

Or you can ask here, or just about any other windsurfer on the beach.

How long has the Breakwater to Beacon been running, and in that time has there ever been an incident like someone being swept out to sea or other?

Just a heads up - saw a tree every 5 minutes coming down the Yarra (Riverside pub) this morning - fn big ones too! Saw 2 crashes by rowers, fortunately minor, but worth keeping your eyes peeled this weekend if they end up out in the middle of the bay

Forecast for Sunday
Winds: Westerly 20 to 30 knots tending west to southwesterly 15 to 25 knots during the afternoon then becoming southwesterly 10 to 20 knots during the evening. Seas: Up to 2 metres.

You want to practice your getting through the shore break skills. Last time I watched the start a third of the field never made it off the beach.

How do you know where the beacon is? its 6km West. Are there buoys out there plotting the direction?

Its been running for 20 years or thereabouts.

No major incidents; but there was one year where an huge squall flattened the fleet and everyone had to be rescued.

Its pretty unlikely that you are going to be first to the Beacon, so its probably easier if you follow someone.

It was in 2008. SSW 20-25 knots. A heap of people were getting clobbered by the shore break by trying to point too high straight off the beach. They needed to get a bit of speed up first.

I lost my sunglasses that day.

Sailed Green Pt this arvo and yes there were some sizeable logs/floaters out there some 2m long 3" round and the odd branch or stick. So could be anyones race if the leaders hit one of those. So tactically best you follow someone and then overtake them near the finish

Ahem... Breakwater to Red Buoy pump race!!!

Well that was fun I guess for an event that never happened. Arms still sore from pumping the sail for so long.

Still wrapped about winning the Gaastra Sail so I have absolutely no regrets:)

Thanks SHQ and Mike for making the best of the conditions for the day, and putting on a great barbie!
