Hi,

I'm part of the RMIT Outdoors Club, we have a whole bunch of windsurfers sitting in a shed at the Bundoora campus rotting away slowly. Last year they were stored in the city and we ran some day trips to Lysterfield to teach people the basics. Trying to run a day trip there now though seems would be a 2 hour epic journey each way.

Does anyone have suggestions for lakes round the north that would be suitable for beginners to drift around?
So far i've had Edwardes lake in Resivour, Lillydale Lake and Greenvale reserve suggested. Any other suggestions or advice on which of these is most suitable would be great.

Thanks,
Tom

Indeed - some of the best spots to learn, are a little far away... the bay is probably your best bet, eg: St Kilda, Elwood, Sandringham. If you dont mind the drive, then Rye, Inverloch, Sandy Point are all good places to learn.

Pretty sure you arn't allowed to sail on those lakes... there are some lakes inland that you can sail on, but usually they are relatively quite far inland andyou often share them with speed-boats.

You could try Sugarloaf Reservoir- there is a sailing club there- www.sailsugarloaf.com/home.php

We did field trips there from RMIT bundoora for my degree, so it isn't that far away.

Their website says no sailboards, but i assume that relates to their racing days. You may be able to reach an arrangement with them and Melbourne water to allow 1-2 special event days?

Worth a try?
