A few seabreeze topics ago a few of us wax and waned about how good some of our Victorian Windsurfers are. That got a few of us thinking. What about sending a few of our Speed Sailors to Luderitz 2013.
For those of you who know nothing about this, check out
luderitz-speed.com/
It is where the world's best speed sailors head for the ultimate speed challenge

Well things have progressed a little from those thoughts and Andrew Daff, Craig Spottiswood and Jacques Kint have put their hands up to put Australia on the map in Luderitz October 2013.

This will be an expensive project for the boys - estimated $10000 each. So as they were all members of Inverloch Windsurfing Club we were able to apply for some Elite Athlete Travel Grants. If we are successful in these applications the grant will pay for $2000 of their travel costs. SO WE NEED TO HELP THEM FUND RAISE.

IWC is setting up an event account with the Australian Sports Foundation that will allow all donations to be tax deductible for individuals and corporates. We will also be running a number of fund raising events, the first of which is

Plug 'n Play/Gybe Clinic - 14th April
Inverloch Anderson Inlet Angling Club Car Park 10am

We will be inviting all the Victorian retailers and the team riders' sponsors to take part in a massive Plug 'n Play on boards, sails and fins so we can all get to try a range of gear in the one spot. We will also be able to check out some of the gear the Team Riders will be taking to Luderitz. Combined with this, the Team Riders and some of the club coaches will be running a gybing clinic. For Paid up and Proud members of IWC this will be free. For social members and non club members a $5 insurance fee will be charged. We will also be asking all participants in the event to contribute a "coloured note" to the Luderitz fund.

This is huge - come and meet the Team Riders, get some gybing tips from the experts and plug 'n play with some demo equipment. Be part of the Aussie Assualt on Luderitz 2013 by contributing financially.

I have confirmed Patrick Boards, Avanti Sails and KA Sails will be attending. More news to hand when I hear from the rest of the retailers and team rider sponsors.

You all have contacts or ideas that may be useful to this Fund Raising Campaign.
Email me at president@inverlochwindsurf.org.au with your thoughts or post them here.

One of the ideas floated by Nick Maloney at Core Boardsports was to pay a donation to sign the team riders board. Imagine being part of floating down the canal at 55kts

Be proud and be part of it!

Nice work guys. Think lateral, don't just focus on windsurfing retailers. This is about speed.

Here's a question for everyone, what businesses like to be associated with speed? Might be worth hitting up some other types of business as well.

Maybe those who make to raw materials that go into gear.

Just spit balling some ideas to see if they can generate some discussion. . . . .

How about talking to jeep...? The funny looking Dutch guy (Paul?) who runs zu already has an agreement with them...
You're basically travelling to the end of the earth in as rugged African country to do something extreme. Pictures of loaded up jeeps, racing along the side of the strip, etc

Red Bull - they like to sponsor extreme sports.

Other energy drink companies?

Federal government sports funding?

Sunday Windguru forecast 10 - 15kts NW - not the best direction(short runs to the sand bank and back - as Kato would say "Good gybing practise") but it is early days yet
The boys are busy trying to build a simulator as a light wind option.

Hi Guys,
I'm really looking forward to this Plug and Play - Gybe clinic day.
I will be traveling down from Sydney with Patrik Boards and Avanti Sails and Masts.

Starting to pack for it now, here is what I'm thinking

Patrik Boards - Speed orientated
Slalom boards (135L, 115L and 92L), Formula, Speed 43 and Freeride 135, 145
Patrik Boards - Maneuver orientated
Freestyle 99, Trailer Wave Wide 92, Freestyle Wave 112, 93

I probably wont be able to fit all those in but ill try

Avanti Sails
Machine M1X 10.0, 8.5, 6.9 and 5.5
Poweride 7.4, 6.6
Viper 6.0
Fenix 5.2,
TOW PRO Masts

As Doug said KA Sails will be there too, hopefully others.

I'm looking forward to meeting everybody! And I have many questions like how tall is Kato? 7ft 8ft? ha Ha, probably taller! 538km respect
regards Justin
