My 7 year old has shown interest in windsurfing and I would like him to try a small rig on a big stable board. The board isn't an issue but where can I get a minature rig? Do any of you have one? It's not that I am too cheap to buy my own but I do t even know if he will get past the fist day let alone enjoy it enough to keep at it. I'd love to have a mini me out ther with me!

I bought one a few months ago to get my 7 y.o into it but have not tried it out yet. If you like we could meet at Sandy Harbour and both 7 y.o can have a go

I have a 4 month old as as well as a seven year old and I have already started the brain washing with 'beginner to winner' instead of teletubbies. He actually looks fascinated by it!

I wonder what woud happen if I strapped a one metre sail to his walker? Maybe I'll wack some harnes lines on his cot too???

check out the ezzy kids rig pack with 1m+1.5m
throw that wind action board in the back yard(permanent simulator)you can both put your rigs on it-fantastic training tool

Waggle56 and are meeting up on tuesday to get the kids out on the water. Its funny we live in the same area!

I saw the posts in the general board and they amazed me and my son, it what made him think that he could do it too!

On a seperate note I went out today and planed for the first time, Awesome!!! I know its no that big a deal for all you exprienced lads but it really made my day! My arms are killing me from holding onto the boom, I didnt have a harnes on or lines attached bit I think it may be time. Oh yeah also managed to do one waterstart too!!!

yeah planing is awesome and us experienced lads become grumpy lads if we don't get it regularly.just you wait till your in the straps and harness,you won't believe how much more awesome that feels
its scary being strapped to the rig,concentrate on using the harness in moderate winds and only a few more hours of practice and your harness will be your best friend
in strong wind practice beach starts,starting with your back foot already in the back strap,once up,slip the front foot in then go for the harness.go as fast as you can,going slightly downwind-don't worry about staying upwind.do a few runs,then walk your gear upwind and go and do it again
you are going to like this,you will go faster than you have been before

and if you crash at the end of the run,no worries you can waterstart now!

Hi Jermaldan and any other interested crew

there are several very good kids rigs available on the market. The Hi Fly and the Pro Limit rigs are also pretty cool. There is a movement towards running a fun kids windsurfing clinic in the Barwon River (at Barwon Heads) on Sunday the 14th of Feb around 13.00. There will be several kids rigs and boards to try in a very low key format. Biggest focus is the kids just having a great time obviously but also open to anyone wanting to have a go. hi guys..after kicking around the date with a few others..looks like we will be aiming for the saturday the 13th of feb at Barwon River for a very casual kids and beginners get together..very low key, all welcome and plenty of equipment to go around. We haven't got to the 1.5m rig yet. This one is the 1m.

Nice and light. I attach it to a wave board and push him around in the shallow water at the beach. Aston is 3.5 in the photo. He also loves the windsurfing movie.

Bluedog...good work! Hey, is that your grassy rigging area leading down to the beach in that last pic??? lucky bugger!

On topic, my 6yo had a go on a rig made by some friends here weekend before last, about 1.5m sail (at a guess). They cut down a sail, cut & modified an old alu boom & mast and rigged it on an old longboard. Their 5yo & my 6yo each sailed non-assisted for about 20m!

Good bump and jump location but you just have to watch out for the jellyfish at this time of year......and the odd crocodile (very rare)

My fravorite piece of kit on the kids rig is the boom....just like a real one just small 85-135cm I think.
