Hi all,

Am heading off to Anglesea Wednesday and hoping to get into the waves if not too heavy! Any advice for sailing around there as its my first time there? Thanks!

All advice below is subject to a good wind direction for that beach.

Anglesea beach is a beach break so, depending on the sand bars, it could either be a fantastic ride or a close-out. If there are no decent wave shoulders, try the eastern edge of Point Roadknight for a reef break. The outer section is deep, so the wave just fades out. The inner section is shallow sand, easy to retrieve lost gear.

Going toward Lorne is Hutt Gulley, a beach break and Urquhart’s Bluff (take the track from the G.O. Road).

From Fairhaven to Eastern View, it’s mainly a beach break, subject to sand bar build up. Eastern View looks like a sand bar break but there’s a reef under the sand, so you can get fantastic rights and lefts depending on the day.

Further toward Lorne is Cathedral Rock. One mistake there and you are well and truly history.

A big too cold for me.

As WindmanV said there are basically two locations. Anglesea beach which can have significant surf and some real dumping waves.

The other is pt Roadknight. probably much easier to get out because the landing area is more secluded behind the rocky point. Wind is a bit tricky / flaky near pt road knight beach due to the prevailing SW winds, however, if you get past the point it is much better. You will not have any real waves there, but i always find the swell quite nice to ride back in.
