I'm trying to find a location in the Bay where I can teach someone to carve gybe and would ideally like somewhere where they don't have to spend time/energy waterstarting.

Given Rye is a long way from the CBD can anyone advise of places closer to town and the wind conditions needed for it to work. Is Altona an option?

a lit bit out of town - point Henry Geelong. On 1 hr from CBD

Like Red said.... dont go anywhere on the Bay -> learning to gybe on rough water is very difficult.

Find somewhere with really flat water like Inverloch, Sandy Point or Point Henry

Yep Point Henry is great for flat water but you do need to keep an eye on the banjo playing locals and everytime they visit us at Inverloch they pinch a boot load of sand to help cover up their toxic mud
If you come to Inverloch you will need to understand and sample the differences of the art of making Lattes.
If you go to Sandy Point well hmmm a Bear Grylls attitude may be the go

Just make sure at Invy and Sandy you pick an hour each side of low tide to get the best flat water.

I saw this guy on very small gear getting around like he was on tracks at Ricketts North on Wednesday..... was nuts to watch...

We have more than enough down there. (sand that is, and possibly banjo playing locals too). Take as many boot loads of either as possible
