that will be funny. she will be teaching people in gale force winds at inverloch. i got to see this maybe she might have to change the lessons to a special high wind lesson for every one. strong northlys are forecasts to blow fri and satdy. so dont know if she will be able to teach people in those conditions as it blows off shore there. i have sailed there in northlys it's just very gusty

So, just sail across to the sandbar and it'll be onshore!

Seriously though, it's not a perfect direction for Inverloch but it's relatively safe as your basically surrounded by sandbars. On top of that there will be safety measures in place I'm sure. Sunday's forecast is looking good.

BTW a safety boat has been organised with 2 shore watchers and people attending the clinics will be given a safety drill before entering the water. We can also swap the Intermediate classes to the morning and beginners to the afternoon as the forecast is for 10 - 15 kts.
However as soon as we do that that will Skunk the wind foir the day
Allison would not teach without the necessary safety requirements put in place.

10-15 knot light wind forecasts in the afternoon. not for inverloch if a cold front is forecasts i dont think the wind will die down there maybe the bay, but not there.

UM, we dont have seabreezes in melbourne any more. It's going to be a cold front i think. i bet the day will look like a ugly winter day, but who cares least there will be wind.

+ 3 - should be a great event and as Doug says, safety is everyone's concern, especially for beginners.

Crowie,
I thought I might produce for you a waterproof booklet of "The Sights and Sounds of Inverloch Foreshore"- maybe even a talking book, just to make those 3-4km walks back to the launching area more educational and interesting! Maybe Doug would like a copy as well????

Nah sorry, I gotta disagree- I reckon we still get seabreezes.... (ie right now we are sitting under a 1022 hp high pressure and the wind is blowing S-SE.... the last low pressure cleared out about two days ago....so in my book that's gotta be a seabreeze!) They might not be filling out as much but they are still there.

Its what I like about you Mick, always thinking about others. The Mother Theresa of the windsurfing community is what people are beginning to say. Mick Obama - that's you, that is. That walk back does get a little monotonous, particularly when towing a board and sail in a 30kn westerly with the tide coming in. Erm, didn't you join us the last time around...? Maybe we could start the Inverloch Windsurfers Book Club to fill those long, humiliating walks back to the launch area. We'd get through a couple of books a month, easy.

Yes, even in high wind conditions it is a very safe place to learn to windsurf. There are alot of sand bars around and the water most the time does not get that rought. So even on real windy days it's great to teach people. So every one please turn up to support the windsurf club. We need more windsurfers in the club.

I only went down there to see what you guys were up to (INSERT BULL** HERE!).
No but I like your thinking, maybe we could do a sail/read-a-thon and get sponsorship per kilometre walked or book read.
Judging by Doug's trip down towards Venus Bay I thought we could start with War and Peace....he should have that complete by the time he walks back!!!

Well erm, you see I needed a good walk that day and why not do it.
It is a new sailing technique that I learnt off the guys at the PIT on the 50 kt day during speed week. They sailed one way and walked back the rest. If it is good enough for them why not me.

I do agree...it worked equally as well for Scott in the Antarctic..altho his 5 X 10 s average was crap!!

Seriously tho' I am looking forward to the weekend. Should be good to get some numbers down on the bar.

But did Doug manage to bury any decent scotch during his little solo sojourn 7 nautical miles downwind - I hear that Scott's batch has been found and they're looking to reproduce it. I wondered what that box was on the back of Salty's F2. Thought it was a lickle LPG engine to help the old man along - but wrong again - crate of Glenmorangie for the walk back!

We're booked and looking forward to the clinics!!

We had to change from camping to a cabin. I hate drying out tents and gear.

As for the wind as beginners, I hope someone has some small sails we can borrow.

See you all there!!!

AHH Crowie, you found me out again. A good whiskey and I will do anything.

Echunda, hear you on the small sails. I am sure if I cannot wrangle some from the retailers that there will be a few around.

Allison is very excited about this also as she has not been on the water for a few weeks.

Not nearly as excited as my father-in-law. My in-laws are currently staying with us from Wales and my father-in-law was keen to find out more about Alison's Bass Straight Challenge after I mentioned it this arvo. I showed him the video from her 911 website and he's now:

1. Determined to windsurf
2. Now knows more about formula boards and GPS systems than I do after an afternoon spent researching on the web.
3. In love

He's 73.

So, do we need to pack in an extra board for him???
I reckon a fair challenge would be for him to match his age with speed (in kmh)- 73= 39.41kts
Should be easy enough for a beginner!

He's brushing off his best flat cap and ironing his socks, just in case he meets Alison over the next few days. He'll be wearing a red carnation and carrying a copy of the Cardiff Post newpaper.
