hi all tassie sailors,

Just letting you know that the sandy point speed fortnight (Victoria) is on from the 25 of september to the 5 of october 2010.so far Dave,Izaak and myself are going, it would be great to get a crew over there. Its a great venue with heaps of different wind angles plus waves over the back, good sailing all round.

email me if interested

cheers,

Yeah, should be a lot of fun. Plan is to take at least one car and a trailer full of gear on the TT-Line. Then rent a house for the time we're there (probably 7-10 days).

Wow, ... we could have a large Tassie Contigent!!! That would be great. Make that 3 cars and two trailers, or maybe a van!!

Hey Anthony, I don't think you'll hit the 30kt mark with a JP quad fin and wave sail! You'll have to splurge on some speed gear, then a door board, then a slalom board, then a freestyle board and then......the list never stops. You'll have to buy a truck!

Spotty has done over 40 knots on a wave board, wave fin and wave sail at Sandy Point, so don't worry too much about what gear you're using, in super flat water, it all goes pretty quick!!! Mind you, he's also done over 50 knots on speed gear, so if you want to go really quick, buy Izaaks speed board

Seriously, any gear is fine at Sandy Point. Just make sure you do bring your smallest sail, just in case ....

Simon was with us for a couple of days last year at sandy point,he managed 32 knots on a jp quad fin with a wave sail.

Well there ya go, who needs to splurge out on speed gear. Just buy JP quad fins and you've got an allrounder.

I'm definitely in and am planning to my car and windsurfing trailer. Happy to share costs of getting both on the ferry if others want a lift. I could potentially take 4 others and all associated gear.

I've just looked at the costs for the TT-Line. My car and trailer return is $814. Accomodation for one in a shared cabin is $340 return. If there were four travelling together it would be $2174 total cost; divided by 4 = $543.50 each (or $502.80 if five of us - which would still be OK).

Then there would be the cost to rent a house for the time we're there, say 10 days (Perks is no doubt looking into this). Lets say $200-$250 per person if there were a few of us!! Then food and drinks!! Probably round it off at around $1000 per person for the trip.

I checked sailing dates and it's OK to leave on Friday evening (24th Sept) and return Sunday night (3rd Oct), booking-wise. That would be two full weekends and the week between (9 days). Probably require sailors from down south to take the Friday and Monday off as well.

Unfortunately we probably don't have the luxury of waiting to see what the weather looks like as if we do wait we might not be able to get the car on the ferry (at the moment it's fully booked).

last year dad,tom and i went on the Friday night (24th) and came back of the Monday night (4th).we were planning if there was a really good forecast, say a day or two after we were going to leave, we were going to stay a few more days. accommodation was quite cheap too by staying in a house with 7 of us all up.dad and i worked out the total cost for both of us of the trip was $1500.

dad said he may ring this week about it.

I've just checked again, and with the government subsidy it's cheaper to take 5 cars than share one car with a trailer!! Less locked in to dates, etc as well if not sharing. Seeing this, I'll probably just take my car and pile the gear on top/inside - so much for car pooling.
