So many of those manufacturers were experimenting on the market with gear that was never going to work. Or simply trying to keep up with trends. There was little science involved unlike today with rigorous R&D and testing before market. I still love to sail my old "Wally" on a sunny afternoon in a light breeze. If only for nostalgic reasons. A reminder where the sport began and the beautiful simplicity that was; One board, mast, sail, and boom!

Windsurfers were tougher last century!
..and the 17kg was an aspirational weight ...like some 120 kg dude who claim he is 90kg all those 17 kg boards weighed 27kg without footstraps or centreboard.
