Hi guys how goes it down in ole cold southern tas?

Jane and I finally made the WA coast, had a quick sail at 80 mile beach water was warm and milky colour cause of the reefs, not much fun too gusty and the long shore current meant Jane had to drive down the beach to pick me up, just no way you could gain ground upwind.

Now at Exmouth, its oh so good, air temperature around 28 degrees, only wear boardshorts, sailed at a place called Sandy Bay (would you believe it). 15 to 18 knots of wind SW direction crystal clear water

Sailed about a K offshore to the edge of the reef then big blasting downwind rides back to the beach.

This is on the seaward side of the gulf, in the national park no one else out except for guys fishing and Jane in the kayak.

Definite surf on the outside reefs but hard to tell how shallow the reef is and its an ffn long way out

Wish some of you guys were here, it would be a real blast

Anyway boys its was great to hit the water even if it is flat, will check out other places as we wihile away the warm balmy days,

Next stop Carnarvon to get to Red Bluff, probably scare the shi...... out me.

See you on the warm side ha ha ha

Hey Rob sounds like you're having a ball.

Red Bluff is the best surfing spot but as far as I know it's no good for sailing, go a few Kms further to Gnaraloo camping ground, the sailing spot is about one km south of that.
You HAVE to sail there you can't come home usless you do.

It's actualy not that hard as it's a reef break and pretty easy to get out. Like all big waves it only gets big right on the break zone, if you drop in early it can be pretty tame. As you gain confidence you'll go in deeper on the wave and if you're like me you'll get drilled but in 9 days sailing and approx 20 drills per day I came out unscathed

Say hi to Jane and make sure she takes pics of you on the reef

Hey Damo went kayacking and swimming at a placed called torquoise bay, fantastic coral with schools of fish coming so close you could almost touch them some of them big enough for the dinner plate including snapper all within 2 metres of the beach..., Morgan would go ape

The camp ground at gnarloo looks tame enough think I'll be able to handle that.. ha ha.... as to sailing Ant I only have the 112 litre board with me if it looks tame enough and theres other guys out.... yeah maybe

Thanks for the pics Ant

Cheers Guys, Jane says Hi too.

Good to hear from you Rob. The new transport is probably no longer new given the kms travelled. Have you filled the van with that red talcum stuff yet? What sort of dollars is diesel over there? Have a look on the WA forum as they discuss local conditions and plenty of advice of where to go to to destroy gear. Ants advice that you can't come home without trying Gnaraloo is probably a little at odds with if you do try it you wont want to come home. The rest of us can only dream. I dont believe it has been 28 degrees - 28 doesn't exist. Now there are a few of us here that can vouch for the existence of below 10 degrees (less wind chill). Damo told me we had a 5 knot north sea breeze today. If these blow now will there be some left for summer? Some nice cold fronts coming thru in next few days might get the gear wet. Good luck to both of you for the rest of the trip.
