My girlfriend and I are coming to Tasmania for the whole of October. I've heard a lot about Marrawah and the north west so we'll definitely be heading there! But what other regions are good? I mostly like the waves but never turn down a flat water blast either!! And the missus likes a bit of SUP too.
Any help would be great, oh and a few no wind ideas would be appreciated!
Stanley Eastern inlet at low tide for speed sailing Port sorell at low tide too, again speed sailing Greens beach and Bell buoy beach for waves in central north are great.
If theres no wind you could hang out on the Tasmanian forum like we do... or Bay of fires area on East Coast is great for touring. Tahune airwalk in the south. Gorge recreation area in Launceston is worth a look. If in Marrawah you must try a king steak too... nothing like it anywhere else on this planet.
A local here has created a great windsurfing guide you can find at www.thespotguide.com.au
Keep an eye on the forum or put a post up a bit closer, I am in the central north (Launceston) be happy to show you around the area.
Hey windy, Down here in the south SUPing has gone off. There is the semi pro with their down winders etc, but also the occasional exploing tour and some mucking about in the baby waves.
Keep an eye on the forums and you should get a feel for whats going on.
Windy, going on what the winds have ben doing of late the N/ NW Coast is the place to be in October. They have had a lot more wave sailing/bump and jump than us southeners.
and Fos thats so old school, sup was last week. we wavesail now!!!
Marrawah is my favourite for wave sailing and SUP, if you need a change from sailing head up to Cradle Mt, plenty of great walks from 5 mins to 5 days, this time of year very few people and maybe some snow
Thanks for all the info and ideas fellas, geared4knots, what you say makes my excited and Mr bearhoover, I'm looking forward to my king steak already! And don't be suprised if I take you up on that offer, thanks very much!
Houston, we are considering the overland track, maybe see how the forecast shapes up, have you done it?
Yeah Windy did the overland track when I was 16 yrs old, I'm now 61....... sh.t that was 45 yrs ago....... how sad is that.
We took 7 days, climbed cradle, ossa and a couple of others. If you're going to do it don't just walk the track make sure you climb a couple of mts none of it too hard but be prepared for any weather.
If that sounds too much you can spend time the cradle end or if you go in from the south there is a pretty awesome group of mts called the Labyrinth.
You can get more detail from tassie walking books though now I'm sure you can google the info
