Next Monday 30th the Wildcare:Friends of Lumeah Point start work on the restoration of the North East Point and the Northern track.
The NE Point is that little patch of bare dirt we manage to squeeze into and the North track is main track we use on the reserve.
The NE Point will be built up slightly and sloping north then finished off with native salt tolerant grasses so on super high tides and rain it will drain quickly.
The track will be gravelled in the same way we did the trial last year with gravel in the wheel-tracks and grass in between.
Work starts Monday morning 9am and should be finished Tues afternoon. Andrew Calvert a local contractor will be doing the work with a tip truck and front-end loader then finished off with shovels and rakes. If anyone has spare time on Tues to help finish off it would be great if you can come and please bring your own shovel and rake.
I will be managing the project under Wildcare:Friends of Lumeah Point, any volunteers will need to sign a register the same as we did on the oyster clean-up and wear a Hi Vis vest provided.
After the work is finished some of the restored area including the NE Point will be fenced off through the winter and early spring and will be opened up once it has dried off sometime in Oct/Nov depending on the season.
When I first read it I thought there were new MTB tracks going in then reading on it's only the reserve at the pond Sorry I'm a little incapacitated at the moment and it's a work day for me too.
