I am possibly moving to Launceston next year and would like to know what the windsurfing is like around the area (I know Launceston is inland but information on the closest spots is what I am after).

Nope not me.

Hey FS it will be great to have some more people down here.
Bring your wetsuit. The Tamar will do on a push but there's heap of places close by.

And if you want to go for a drive there's Hobart, only 2hrs away and marrawah is about the same.

Hope to see you soon.

I hope you make it down to Launceston FS, this is a very central spot as a base for windsurfing in Tassi and year round, we get some pretty consistent breezes (August being the light wind month this year). Its about 40 min to the north coast from here and we get some pretty regular wavesailing at East Beach and Bell buoy Beach. Bakers Beach is about 50 min drive away and Marrawah and the west coast beaches are around 3 hours away.

You can sail in the Tamar river at times though it tends to be a lot more gusty than sailing on the coast.

This is a pretty good summary of sailing locations in Tasmania.

There is a good mix of abilities sailing around the different spots so on most weekends you should be able to find some fellow windsurfers to sail with.

While spring weather in Tassi can be mixed ( we get a few 25 to 35 kt days at this time of year) there are usually a decent number of moderate wind days.

Today was a great example...the sun was out and the wind was around 15 kts...perfect for a 7.5 and a 120 l board. The water didn't even feel particularly cold.
